PROPOSED HYPERMARKET BY THE BAY

I. Background of the study

A Introduction

Shopping is one of the numerous things in which Filipinos take pride. It has grown from a
simple act of going to a neighboring grocery store to become one of the lucrative sectors that
drives the economy. Hypermarkets have evolved from their previous status as simple markets.
The concept of supermarkets was born out of the desire to integrate these disparate entities
under one roof for customers' convenience. Hypermarkets are remarkably different to their
earlier forms. This is evident by the various businesses running in these stores. Service
industries have also penetrated these super stores in a quest to cash in on the increasing
human traffic traversing the massive store square footage (Humphery, 1998). Customers in
supermarkets are more likely than other customers to diverge from their shopping trips and visit
service industry stores, according to research. Barbershops, acupuncture, auto detailing,
restaurants, opticians, and other entertaining activities, such as roller coaster rides, were all
considered in this study. All of these things have become commonplace in today's retail malls

B Design Objective:

This study sought to describe and analyze the Hypermarket architectural design that
contributed an economic aspect in the Philippines. Going along with understanding society,
studying history allows us a look into what causes change. The events leading up to world that
help us understand how a small event can set off a large series of changes.

II. Presentation Data

This sought to present data or information gathered during data collection. The gathered
data were filtered and simplified by the researcher to formulate a conclusion. Besides, this
chapter contains the analysis of data and, lastly, the results will be explained briefly and how the
gathered data relates to the research topic.

A. Macro Site Data

1. Geographical Location of the Site

Pasig City is located in Metro Manila, Philippines. This

covers 3,432-hectare city with 30 barangays. It is
surrounded by Quezon City and Marikina City on the
North, Pateros, Makati City, and Taguig on the South,
Mandaluyong City on the West, and Cainta and

2.2 Geomorphic Data

2.2.1. Topography and Slope

The Topography of the City of Pasig is generally characterized by level to undulating with
the gradients ranging from 0-5%. About 90% are generally level and land only, 10% areas are

2.2.2. Soil and Environmental Data

The geographical division of Metro Manila has placed Pasig under the Marikina Valley
Zone. As such soil composition is generally characterized by Marikina clay loam representing
86% of the total land area. About 14% is within Guadalupe Plateau Zone where the soil is very
suitable for urban development. Valle Verde Subdivisions, Barangay Kapitolyo and the Ortigas
Center stand on this zone.

2.2.3. Vegetation

The total land area of Pasig City is

32 sq.km.or 3,100 hectares, 5% of Metro
Manila’s 630 sq.km.area. It ranks 10h in
terms of area among towns and cities of
Metro Manila. Pasig consists of 30
barangays with Barangay Ugong
occupying the largest area, about 12% of
the total land area, while Barangay Sto.
Tomas occupies the smallest area with
2%.

2.3.1 Rivers, Bays and Creeks cainta-taytay-taytay-tagig.html

``

Two main natural bodies of water transverse the city and influence development, the Pasig
River the Marikina River. Around 16 km. of these rivers run through the City of Pasig. In
addition, 17 creeks/esteros transverse through Pasig and its periphery. The Pasig River links
Laguna Bay with Manila Bay while the Marikina River originates from the mountains of
Montalban and drains its waters into the Pasig River. Another body of water, the man-made
Manggahan Floodway cuts across the city, from the Marikina River bend in Barangay Rosario
down to Laguna Bay. About 3 km. of Manggahan Floodway transverse the city, in particular
barangay Rosario and Maybunga. The Manggahan Floodway is part of the Metro Manila flood
control program that prevents flooding in Manila and its vicinity through the diversion of about
70% of the water coming from the Marikina River to flow towards the Laguna de Bay and only
3% to flow the Pasig River.

B. Micro-Planning
1. Site Location Plan
The site/ lot are located in Pasay City. Bounded by the compound of Government
Service
Insurance System (GSIS) on the East, Manila Bay on the West and the Manila Film
Center on
The North.
