Mini-Task 1: Experimental Probability: Coin Toss


Instructions: Perform the experiment by thoroughly following the instructions. Submit a PDF of your
work on Google Classroom under quiz assignment entitled: “Mini Task”

1. Before starting the activity, show the Theoretical Probability of tossing a coin once.

2. Now, prepare a coin and toss it. Record the results of each toss in the tables below. Write H if the result is
a Head and T if the result is Tail.

3. After playing, do you still think that the probability of getting a head or a tail when tossing a coin is ½ or
50%? Why?
Yes, I do still think that when u toss an individual coin it will always be ½ or 50% because there are only two
possible outcomes (Heads & tails). The results from the tables do not affect that there are only two possible
outcomes, it is only by chance that there were 3/5 heads and 2/4 tails for table number 1, 5/10 heads, and 5/10 tails
for table number 2, and 17/30 heads and 13/30 for table number 3.

4. This time, you will analyze the activity by computing the Experimental Probabilities considering each
table. Show your complete solution.

Experimental Probability of Table 1:

P (Heads) = or 60% P (Tails) = or 40%

Experimental Probability of Table 2:

P (Heads) = or 50% P (Tails) = or 50%

Experimental Probability of Table 3:

5. As the number of trials increases, what happens to the values of Experimental Probability in
comparison to the Theoretical Probability?
According to Explorable.com (https://explorable.com/experimental-probability), as the number of trials
increases, the values of the experimental probability tend to go towards the theoretical probability but based on the
results of my experiment, as the number of trials increases, the values of the experimental probability become more
or less than ½ or 50% in comparison to the theoretical probability. Although by chance, I did get a 5/10 for both
heads and tails in table 2.
