● You must submit your answers within the following time frame allowed for this online
assessment:
o The deadline for the submission of your answers is half an hour from the end time of this
online assessment.
● Penalty as below WILL BE IMPOSED on students who submit their answers late as follows:
o The final marks of this online assessment will be reduced by 10 marks for answer scripts
that are submitted within 30 minutes after the deadline for the submission of answers for this
online assessment.
o The final marks of this online assessment will be downgraded to zero (0) mark for any
answer scripts that are submitted after one hour from the end time of this online assessment.
● Extenuation Mitigating Circumstance (EMC) encountered, if any, must be submitted to the
Faculty/Branch/Centre within 48 hours after the date of this online assessment. All EMC
applications must be supported with valid reasons and evidence. The UC EMC Guidelines apply.

Question 1

You are the interaction designer in Abble, a smart watch company. You are assigned to a new project
of designing an application for kids (between 5 to 8 years old). This application is aimed to help parents
reach out to their kids, when the kids are away from the parents, such as going to school. Abble smart
watch (as shown in Figure 1) is able to make and receive phone calls with a SIM card inside it. Besides
that, it also has a colour touch screen and one physical push button on it.

a) Analyze TWO (2) potential interaction design issues/problems that need to be identified before
the application design on smart watch, and also discuss your design solutions for EACH of the
potential interaction design issues/problems. (40 marks)

Marks Criteria for Question 1 a)

Potential interaction design problem/issue with justification/explanation (10 marks) + Design solution with
justification/explanation (10 marks) = 20 marks x 2 = 40 marks

b) Explain how Hierarchical Task Analysis (HTA) is able to help you during your analysis stage
in this project. (10 marks)

Question 2

a) You want to find out the usability between two different personal assistant devices (as shown
in Figure 2). Investigate the suitable evaluation metrics in measuring effectiveness and
efficiency based on a task of weather query to those devices. (30 marks)

Marks Criteria for Question 2 a)

Effectiveness metrics (20 marks) + efficiency metric (10 marks)= 30 marks

b) Between Laboratory study and Field study, which is the most suitable for your evaluation in the
scenario given in Question 2 a)? Justify your answer. (10 marks)

c) IT programmers are encouraged to work from home during Covid-19 pandemic. Demonstrate
with TWO (2) important factors on how they could make the working environment
ergonomically correct. (10 marks)
