Hydrostatic Test
Wet Pipe Sprinkler System
METHOD STATEMENT
Hydrostatic Tests
1. Prior to any performance of hydrostatic test. The installer must acquire the approval of request for inspection
(RFI) for the installation of piping and support works for the network.
2. The request for inspection (RFI) for performance of hydrostatic test must be accompanied with an accurate as‐
built drawing showing the piping network and support as field installed.
3. All piping and attached appurtenances shall be hydrostatically tested at 200 PSI (14 bar) and shall maintain that
pressure without loss for 2 hours. (NFPA 13‐2019 28.2.1.1)
4. Loss in pressure shall be determined by a drop in the gauge pressure or visual leakage. (NFPA 13‐2019 28.2.1.2)
5. Portions of system normally subjected to system working pressures in excess of 150 psi (10 bar) shall be tested
as described in 28.2.1.2 at a pressure of 50 psi (3.4 bar) in excess of system working pressure. (NFPA 13‐2019
28.2.1.3)
6. When systems are being hydrostatically tested, tests shall be permitted to be conducted with pendent or
horizontal sidewall sprinklers or plugs installed in fittings. Any plugs shall be replaced with pendent or horizontal
sidewall sprinklers after the test is completed. (NFPA 13‐2019 28.2.1.8)
7. During the pressurization of the system and hydrostatic test pressurization. The installer shall be allowed to
install a temporary means of air vent using valve to purge the system of excessive air.
8. An additional air pressure leakage test or any other form of test or method shall not be required to be performed
further unless provided for by the NFPA 13, SBC 801 (Saudi Fire Code), Civil Defense guidance, and/or agreed by
Thimar through a variation order.
