Activity 1

1. They all show fissures or cracks at the center.

2. The crusts are splitting in opposite directions.

3. The gap left behind by the crusts will allow new materials from the mantle to ooze up and fill up
the gap and slowly cool down to produce a new ocean floor.

Study the picture

1. The gap in the topmost picture is small and gets a bit larger in the 2nd picture while that gap in
the lowermost picture is very small almost like there is no gap at all.

2. Rift valleys and oceanic ridges are the geologic features that are formed here.

Activity 2

1. They are moving apart.

2. The existence of fissure or cracks.

3. Volcanic islands and oceanic ridges may be formed in an oceanic-oceanic divergence.

4. A rift valley may be formed in a continental-continental divergence. No, the features or events
that happen in an oceanic convergence is different to that of a continental convergence.

5. If divergent plate boundaries did not exist, we’d be staying in a single continental surrounded by
a single large ocean. We would also not see many geologic features such as rift valleys and
trenches if divergent plate boundaries did not exist.

Activity 3

1. They slide past each other in opposite directions.

2. Earthquakes happen along transform fault boundaries.

3. A tsunami may occur.

4. The San Andreas Fault.

5. Place heavy objects on the floor, secure hanging objects, prepare an emergency kit, reinforce
your home, and many more.
