First,producthighlights.Searchremainstheheartofwhatwedo.We’vemaderemarkable
advancesoverthepast23yearsthatbenefitSearchandrelatedproductslikeGoogleAssistant
--whichjustcelebratedfiveyears.Earlierthisyear,weannouncedthatwereachedasignificant
milestonewithMultitaskUnifiedModel,orMUMforshort.MUMisathousandtimesmore
powerfulthanBERTandcanunderstandinformationacrossmanycontexts,liketextand
images.AtourSearchOneventinSeptember,wesharedhowwe’reusingMUMtoimprove
GoogleLenssopeoplecansearchusingbothimagesandwords.Wealsosharedthatwe’re
bringingamorevisualshoppingexperiencetoSearch,poweredbytheGoogleShopping
Graph.Itlinksshopperswithover24billionproductlistingsfrommerchantsacrosstheweb.
GoogleMapsnowofferseco-friendlyrouting.ItletsdriversintheU.S.chooseamore

TurningnexttoHardware,IhopeyousawourFallPixeleventlastweek.I’mveryexcitedabout
therangeofPixelphonesavailablethisholidayseason.ThenewPixel6and6Probring

history,withnewwidgetstopersonalizeyourphone.Wealsointroducedaccessibilityfeatures
thatusegesturestocontrolyourphoneandcommunicate.Android12issecurebydefaultand
privatebydesign.Newdashboardsandindicatorsmakeiteasiertoviewandadjustprivacy
permissions,anddisableaccesstodevicesensorsandlocationinformation.We’vealsomade
progresswithamade-for-Indiaaffordablesmartphoneco-developedwithReliance.The
JioPhoneNextdevicefeaturespremium,localizedcapabilities,andisontracktolaunch
in-marketbyDiwali.
OntoCloud,whereweseecontinuedmomentumwithQ3revenuegrowing45%
year-over-year,withGCP’srevenuegrowthrateaboveCloudoverall.AtCloudNexttwoweeks
ago,weunveiledhundredsofnewcapabilities,services,andsolutions.Wealsoannounced
twentynewandexpandedpartnershipstosupportthegrowthandscaleofourcustomers
aroundtheworld.Morethananyothertopcloudprovider,GoogleCloudhasuniquecapabilities
tomeettheneedsofenterprises,digitalnativesandSMBsaroundtheworld.I’llhighlightthree:
First,ourleadershipinreal-timedata,analyticsandAIiswinningcustomerslikeCarrefour
Belgium,DeutschePostDHL,andWendy’s,whoareunlockingdatatodeliveruniquebusiness
outcomes.BigQuery,ourleadingdatawarehousesolution,isreducingcostsanddriving
productivityatCardinalHealthandATBFinancial.OurdifferentiatedAIandML-basedindustry
solutionsarehelpingleadingglobalcompanies.GEAppliances,aHaiercompany,isintegrating
VisionAIintotheirnext-generationsmarthomeappliances.AndIKEARetailisusing
RecommendationsAItodrivea30%increaseincustomerclick-throughrate.
Second,customersseevalueinouropen,scalableinfrastructurethatenablesthemtorun
workloadsanywhere–onourCloud,attheedge,orintheirdatacenters.RodanandFields
scaleditsSAPenvironment,SiemensEnergyismigratingitsglobalnetworkofdatacentersand
company-wideSAPsystems,andIndonesia’slargesttechnologydigitalnativeGoToGroupis
supportingover100millionmonthlyactiveuserswithGoogleCloud.GeneralMills,BellCanada
andWellsFargoareharnessingourleadershipinmulti-cloudandouropendevelopment
environment;andtomeettheuniquedigitalsovereigntyneedsofcustomersaroundtheworld,
weannouncedindustry-firstpartnershipswithT-SystemsinGermanyandThalesinFrance.
Third,asconsumers,businessesandschoolscontinuetheirshifttowardshybridwork,the
threatsofcybersecuritycontinuetoincrease.CustomersareturningtoGoogleWorkspaceand
ourcybersecurityplatformtoprovidetheeaseofuse,collaborationandsecuritytheyneed.
TheseincludeorganizationslikeDiscovery,CommonSpiritHealth,andthestateofMaryland
whowanttofostercreativitywhilesecurelyprotectingtheirusers.
Wearealsoseeingstronggrowthinourbroadportfolioofcybersecurityproducts.Thisincludes
Chronicle,oneofourzerotrustofferings,whichJetBlueusestodetectcybersecuritythreats,
helpingtoprotectitscustomersandenterprise.

Wearebringingourteam’sdeepexpertisetocustomersthroughtheGoogleCybersecurity
ActionTeamandanewWorkSaferprogram,whichprovidesbest-in-classsecurityforemails,
meetings,messagingandmore.
Earlier,Imentionedafewofthesustainabilityrelatedproductfeaturesweannounced.Our
Cloudcustomersalreadybenefitfromoperatingontheworld’scleanestcloud,andlastyearwe
setanambitiousgoaltorunourdatacentersandcampuseson24/7carbon-freeenergyby
2030.TwothirdsoftheelectricityconsumedbyGoogledatacentersin2020wasmatchedwith
local,carbon-freesourcesonanhourlybasis.AndournewCarbonFootprinttoolgives
customerscarbonemissionsinsightsassociatedwiththeirGoogleCloudPlatformusage.
Now,overtoYouTubeforafewhighlights.WerecentlysurpassedfiftymillionMusicand
Premiumsubscribers,includingthoseintrial.AndYouTubeShortscontinuestoseehigh
adoptionrates.Inthepastyear,theaveragenumberofdailyfirsttimecreatorsmorethan
doubled.Nextweek,asgloballeadersgatherinGlasgowtoaddressclimatechange,YouTube
ispartneringwithCOP26tolivestreamconferenceactivities,makingtheeventmoreaccessible
foreveryone.Aswegrow,we’remaintainingouropenglobalplatformresponsiblybyremoving
harmfulcontentandreducingborderlinecontent.BothourAIinvestmentsandthepromotionof
trustedsourceshavehelpedussignificantlylowertheviolativeviewrate,whichisthe
percentageofviewsonYouTubefromcontentthatviolatesourpolicies.
OntoourOtherBets.WaymobeganwelcomingriderstoitsTrustedTesterprograminSan
Francisco,inadditiontoitsfullyautonomousride-hailingservicecurrentlyinPhoenix.Nextyear,
WaymowillopenadedicatedtruckinghubintheDallas-FortWortharea,helpingsupport
commercialfreightroutesacrosstheSouthwest.Andweannouncedlastweekthefirst
commercialexpansionofWing’son-demandairdeliveryservicetoWalgreenscustomersin
selectlocations.
Toclose…theworldisslowlystartingtotravelandmeetupinperson,andthisquarterIjoined
eventsvirtuallytocelebratesomebigmilestonesinregionsaroundtheworld.Earlierthismonth,

First,fromabigpicture,globalrecoveryperspective–wecontinuetoseealotofunevenness.
Someeconomieshaverestartedandreaccelerated–albeitatdifferentspeeds.Othercountries,
dependingonlocalregulationsandvaccines,havebeenslowertorebound.
It’sclearthatuncertaintyisthenewnormal.Theworldisinflux.Sowhenitcomesto
anticipatingchange,predictingdemand,andinvestingininnovation,businessesneedasmuch
supportnowastheydidayearandahalfago.Andwecontinuetohelp.
Likeintravel–wherehotelfreebookinglinksareincreasingtrafficformanypartners-from
OTAstoboutiquehotels.Consumerslikemorechoice.Travelpartnerslikefreeexposure.And
advertisersliketoaugmentpaidcampaignswithfreelistings.Solastmonthwelaunchedfree
bookinglinksfor“thingstodo”andanewadformatthatmakesiteasiertopromotelocal
experiences.Now,whenyousearchziplining,aquariums,ortheTokyoTower,youcanbuy
ticketsdirectlyonGoogle.AndthentherearecompanieslikeAlaskaAirlinesthatare
harnessingfirst-partydataandautomationacrossSearchtonavigatemarketfluidityandbetter
understandthelifetimevalueoftheircustomers.They’veincreasedreturnonadspendby30%+
vs.thesameperiodpre-Covid.
Beyondtravel,businessesofallkindsareincreasinglyadoptingtoolslikeAI-drivenautomation
andinsightstoconnectwithcustomers–nomatterwhatstageoftherecoverythey’rein.
150-year-oldluxuryretailerDeBijenkorfturnedtolocalinsightsandautomationtospeedup
cross-borderexpansionbeyondtheNetherlandsandBelgiumtoGermany,France,andAustria.
Withamulti-prongedapproach,includingShoppingCampaigns,DeBijenkorfdrovesubstantial
growththroughoutthepandemic.Returningvisitorstoonlinestoreswereupfourfoldinfirst-half
2021vs.2020.
Whichleadsmetoretail–wherewehadanotherstellarquarter.We’veseenexplosivegrowth
indigitaloverthelast20-somemonths,butastheworldbeginstoreopen,shoppersare
returningtostores.Brickandmortarisn’tdead–instead,omnichannelisinfullforce.Searches
for‘opennownearme’areupfourtimesgloballyvs.lastyear.Stronggrowthinlocalshopping
queriesmeanspeopleareresearchingtheirvisitstostoresmoreoftenbeforetheygo.Asa
result,we’veseenmoreadvertisersincludein-storesalesalongsideecommercegoalstodrive
omnichannelgrowth–adoptionhasnearlydoubledoverthepastyear.TakeKohl’s-itoptimized
mediaspendintotrendingcategoriesandlaunchedcurbsidepickupjusttwoweeksafterits
1,100storesshutdown.AftertestingLocalInventoryAdsinQ4,Kohl’swentallinon
omnichannelbiddingacrossitspaidSearchportfolioandisleaningheavilyintoafull-funnel
approachonYouTube–includingCTV.Kohl’snetsaleswereup31%yearoveryearinQ2,led
byhigherfoottrafficandcontinuedstrengthindigital.
Innovatinginomnichannelandnext-genuserexperiencesremainscoretoourshopping
strategy.Afewofourlatestlaunchesinclude:easierwaysforbusinessestoshowthelocal
servicestheyoffer–fromhairextensionstoautorepair–acrossSearchandMaps.Local
inventoryadsthathighlightswhichproductsarein-stockandwhentopickthemup.Free
shippingandeasyreturnannotationsacrossSearchandShopping.ARcapabilitiesthatbring
in-storemomentsonlineandletuserstrybeforetheybuy.Andthen–instantlyshoppable
imageswithGoogleLens.Plusanewvisual,browseableexperienceonSearch.
There’salotmoretocome…includingtappingintocommerceonYouTube.Fromshoppable
livestreamexperimentswithretailerslikeSephora,TargetandWalmarttopilotsthatletviewers
buydirectlyfromtheirfavoritecreators’videos,we’restillintheearlyinningsofwhat’spossible.

Ourdirectresponsemomentumremainsstrong.VideoActionCampaignsaredrivingmore
conversionsthanpreviousformats,andbyaddingproductfeedstothesecampaigns,
advertisersareachieving,onaverage,over60%moreconversionsatalowercostthanthose
without.
Ourbrandbusinessisalsoperformingwell.AsIsaidlastquarter,YouTube’sreachisbecoming
increasinglyincrementaltoTV–we’rehelpingadvertisersfindaudiencestheycan’tfind
anywhereelse.ConnectedTVisdrivingpartofthisgrowth–it’sourfastestgrowingscreen.The
precisionofdigitalpairedwiththescaleoflinearisprovingtobeanawesomecombo–and
evenmoresonowwiththeexpansionofVideoActionCampaignsforCTV.Advertiserscannow
driveconversionsonthebigscreen.
WhichbringsmetohowbrandsofallsizescontinuetobuyYouTubeatbothendsofthefunnel-
tocreatefuturedemandwhiletheyconvertexistingdemand.Andthey’reseeingupside.For
example,wefoundthatadvertisersusingbothDRandBrandvideoseeBranddriving28%of
conversionassists.Domino'sPizzaisagreatexample–theirUKbusinessdelivereda9Xreturn
onadspendontheirdirectresponsecampaignswhenpairedwiththeirbrandcampaigns.
Lastly,I’vesaiditbeforeandI’llsayitagain–oursuccessisonlypossiblebecauseofour
customersandpartners.Wedowellonlywhentheydowell–andit’saresultoftherevenue
sharemodelswe’vetalkedaboutmanytimesbefore.
Threehighlights:first,asSundarmentioned,ourcommitmenttohigh-qualityjournalismand
openaccesstoinformationremainssteadfast.It’sbeenoneyearsincewelaunchedNews
Showcase–inQ3alone,wesignedover120dealsandlaunchedin3newmarkets–Japan,
Colombia,andAustria.Andofthemorethan1,000publicationsacrossadozen-pluscountries
thatwenowhaveonboard,90%areconsideredlocal,regionalorcommunitynewspapers.
Second,over2millioncreatorsarenowmakingmoneyandbuildingtheirbusinesseson
YouTubeviaourYouTubePartnerProgram–with10differentwaystomonetizetheircontent,
fromSuperChattoBrandConnect.Thenextgenerationofbusinessesandmediacompanies
arebeingbuiltbycreators,onYouTube–andwe’reexcitedtohelpthemgrow.
Third,IechoSundar’sexcitementonPixel.Andtobringittolife,andtousers,weworkedwith
anentireecosystemofpartners.Wesignedpartnershipagreementswithover45carriersand
retailersacrossninecountriesatlaunch–includingdeepcollaborationwitheachofthemajor
UScarriers:AT&T,T-Mobile,andVerizon.
Onbehalfofmany,Iwanttosayhowgratefulwearetocollaboratewithsomanyamazing
customersandpartnerseveryday–wecan’twaittostartdoingmoreofthisinpersonagain

thirdquarterreflectscontinuedbroad-basedstrengthinadvertiserspendandelevated
consumeronlineactivityaswellasastrongcontributionfromGoogleCloud.Mycommentswill
beonyear-over-yearcomparisonsforthethirdquarter,unlessIstateotherwise.Wewillstart
withresultsattheAlphabetlevel,followedbysegmentresults,andconcludewithouroutlook.

Forthethirdquarter,ourConsolidatedRevenueswere$65.1billion,up41%,orup39%in
constantcurrency.Ourtotalcostofrevenueswas$27.6billion,up31%,primarilydrivenby
growthinTAC,whichwas$11.5billion,up41%.OtherCostofRevenues,were$16.1billion,up
24%,reflectinginpartthebenefitfromthechangeinusefullivesmadeearlierthisyear.The
largestdriverofthegrowthinOtherCostofRevenueswascontentacquisitioncosts.Operating
expenseswere$16.5billion,up19%.Intermsofthethreecomponentpartsofopex.First,the
increaseinR&Dexpenseswasdrivenprimarilybyheadcountgrowth.Second,thegrowthin
Sales&Marketingexpenseswasdrivenbyheadcountgrowth,followedbythecontinued
ramp-upofspendingonadsandpromo,incontrasttothepullbackinthethirdquarterlastyear.
Finally,theincreaseinG&Areflectstheimpactofchargesrelatingtolegalmatters,followedby
headcountgrowth.Operatingincomewas$21.0billion,up88%andouroperatingmargin was
32%.OtherIncome&Expense,was$2.0billion,whichprimarilyreflectsunrealizedgainsinthe
valueofinvestmentsinequitysecurities.Netincomewas$18.9billion.
WecontinuedtogeneratestrongFreeCashFlowof$18.7billioninthequarterand$65.7billion
forthetrailingtwelvemonths.Weendedthethirdquarterwith$142billionincashand
marketablesecurities.
Letmenowturntooursegmentfinancialresults.StartingwithourGoogleServicessegment,
totalGoogleServicesRevenueswere$59.9billion,up41%.Googlesearchandother
advertisingrevenuesof$37.9billioninthequarter,wereup44%,withbroad-basedstrength
acrossourbusiness,ledagainbystronggrowthinretail.YouTubeadvertisingrevenuesof$7.2
billion,wereup43%,duetostrengthinbothdirectresponseandbrandadvertising.The
decelerationinthegrowthratevsthesecondquarterwasdrivenbylappingastrongrecoveryin
brandinthethirdquarteroflastyear.Networkadvertisingrevenuesof$8.0billion,wereup
40%.OtherRevenueswere$6.8billion,up23%,drivenbygrowthinYouTubenon-advertising
revenues;andHardware,whichbenefitedfromtheadditionofFitbitrevenues.GoogleServices
Operatingincomewas$24.0billion,up66%,andtheoperatingmarginwas40%.
TurningtotheGoogleCloudsegment,revenueswere$5.0billionforthethirdquarter,up45%.
GCP’srevenuegrowthwasagainaboveCloudoverall,reflectingsignificantgrowthinboth
infrastructureandplatformservices.StrongrevenuegrowthinGoogleWorkspacewasdrivenby
robustgrowthinbothseatsandaveragerevenueperseat.GoogleCloudhadanOperating
Lossof$644million.
AstoourOtherBets,inthethirdquarter,revenueswere$182million.Theoperatinglosswas
$1.3billion.
Letmeclosewithsomecommentsonouroutlook.Withrespecttoforeignexchangeimpacton
reportedrevenues,basedoncurrentspotratesweexpectvirtuallynoimpactinQ4incontrast
toa1.5%tailwindinQ3and4%inQ2.
Intermsofoutlookbysegment,forGoogleServices–asInoted,thestrengthofourrevenues
inQ3reflectedbothunderlyingstrengthinadvertiseranduseractivityaswellastheimpact
fromlappingweakerperformanceinthecomparableperiodlastyear.Giventhegradual
recoveryinresultsthroughthebackhalfof2020,thebenefitfromlappingprioryear
performancediminishedinQ3vsQ2andwilldiminishfurtherinQ4.
WithinOtherRevenues,inthefourthquarter,weexpecttheongoingdriversofrevenuegrowth
tobeHardware,duetothebenefitfromtheholidaysellingseasonandinclusionofFitbit,aswell
asYouTubesubscriptions.GooglePlay’scontributiontorevenuegrowthwillremainmoremuted

giventheongoingimpactofbothlappingtheincreasedlevelofuserengagementthatstartedin
thefirstquarterof2020duetothepandemic,aswellasthefeechangethattookeffectonJuly
1.
WithinGoogleServices,weexpectSalesandMarketingexpensestobeelevatedinthefourth
quartertosupporttheholidayseason.
TurningtoGoogleCloud,weremainfocusedonrevenuegrowth,andarepleasedwiththe
trendsweareseeing.InGCP,ourcustomerwins,asSundarnoted,reflectourmulti-year
investmentsinproductsandsolutionsthatarepurpose-builttosolveforthebiggest
opportunitieswithinourtargetedeightindustries.Thebenefitofthesesolutionstoour
customersisclearandtheyarechoosingtoworkwithusastheirlong-termtransformation
partner.WithrespecttoWorkspace,wearepleasedwiththeongoingmomentuminbothseat
growthandaveragerevenueperseat,whichunderscoresthevalueofcollaborativesolutions,in
particularaspeopleincreasinglyareembracingahybridworkmodel.AcrossCloud,we
continuetoinvestaggressively,bothingrowingourGo-to-Marketandproductteamsaswellas
buildingoutourcloudregions.
AttheAlphabetlevel,headcountgrewbynearly6,000inthethirdquarter,includingour
seasonalcampushires,andweexpectrobustheadcountgrowthinQ4forbothGoogleServices
andGoogleCloud.
TurningtoCapEx,theresultsinthethirdquarterprimarilyreflectongoinginvestmentinour
technicalinfrastructure,mostnotablyinservers,tosupportongoinggrowthinGoogleServices
andGoogleCloud.Wealsocontinuetoincreasethepaceofinvestmentinfit-outsand
ground-upconstructionofofficefacilitiestoaccommodateourongoingheadcountgrowth
