1. Carefully read the following:

This project requires you set up a complex network.

This project can be based on the case study business in the ICT simulation pack or
you may like to base this on your own business, or a business you are currently
working for or are familiar with. If you are basing this on your own business it is
important that you can access business’ network design and business requirements
and a complex network or hardware and software required to build a network
involving multiple servers, multiple physical locations and a combination of network
services. Speak to your assessor to get approval if you want to base this on your
own business or one you work for.
As per standard industry practice, the network configuration, installation and
monitoring may be completed using network software. Your assessor will speak to
you about the software to be used.
You will be collecting evidence for this unit in a Project Portfolio. The steps you
need to take are outlined below.

2. Planning

Make sure you are familiar with the business you are basing this assessment on
and have read through the necessary background information. For the case study
business, this is all of the documents included in the ICT simulation pack. If it’s your
own business or a business where you are working or are familiar with, it’s
important at this step that you have your business or case study approved by your
assessor.
Complete Page 4 of your Project Portfolio for this unit.
Read through the requirements of Section 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 of your Project
Portfolio.

3. Complex network planning

You are now to work on your Project Portfolio. Complete Section 1 of your Project
Portfolio by:

or five, you will present your plan for the complex network. The purpose of the
presentation is to get feedback on your plan and to share ideas and solutions.
Each person in your group will present their plan too and so you will also need to
provide feedback to them as part of the discussion.
Each person will have a turn of approximately 10 minutes per person).
Make notes on the feedback you receive and any changes you will make based on
the feedback given.
Your assessor will also be looking to see that you can:

 demonstrate effective communication skills including:

addresses for all LAN computers. Ensure that when configuring the server
that you set it up so that there are automatic updates. Ensure you also
incorporate a communications server for the VOIP and videoconferencing
services you will integrate.

 Install and configure the router including the routers dynamic addresses and
ports.

 Configure secure shell on routers (SSH) to enable secure management of the

system, as well as remote access services.

 Install and configure the switches.

 Implement the security strategy as identified in your plan.

Once you complete your work check for any interoperability issues and security
conflicts and resolve as required.
Take screenshots of your work and attach them to your Portfolio.

Complete Section 3 of your Portfolio and submit to your assessor.
