CHAPTER 1
GENERAL
SECTION 1.1 SCOPE
1.1.0
The Saudi Building Code for Loading referred to as SBC 301 provides minimum load
requirements for the design of buildings and other structures. Loads and
appropriate load combinations, which have been developed to be used together, are
set forth for strength design and allowable stress design. For design strengths and
allowable stress limits, design specifications for conventional structural
materials used in buildings and modifications contained in SBC 301 shall be
followed.
SECTION 1.2 DEFINITIONS
1.2.0
The following definitions apply to the provisions of the entire SBC 301.
Allowable Stress Design.

charge to the jurisdiction, a technical opinion and
report. The opinion and report shall be prepared by
a qualified engineer, specialist, laboratory or fire
safety specialty organization acceptable to the fire
code official and shall analyze the fire safety
properties of the design, operation or use of the
building or premises and the facilities and
appurtenances situated thereon, to recommend
necessary changes. The fire code official is
authorized to require design submittals to be
prepared by, and bear the stamp of, a registered
design professional.
104.8 Modifications. Where there are practical
