My Philosophy of Education

I believe in the teaching profession. I believe that in my hands lie the well-being
of those young people under my care. And most importantly, I believe that I could be
better than I think I am, and yes, I could make a difference.

I believe that every child is unique. Every student is unique in his or her strengths
and challenges, and it is the job of the teacher to utilize highly individualized learning in
response to the student. Every learner has special innate abilities that must be
nourished or enriched in order for them to achieve their maximum potential. I believe
that children have the ability to learn and the right to quality education. I believe that
every child has the ability to become an educated person if he/she is trained by the best
teacher. Every child can become an educated person with the right moral values and
become a productive individual with the help of a teacher who has the heart to guide
his/her learners to be the best that they can be.

I believe in learner-centered teaching, an approach that focuses on the learners

and their development rather than on the transmission of content. This approach in
teaching means engaging students, teaching problem-solving skills, getting students to
think critically about themselves and the world, and encouraging collaboration among
them. It is my desire as an educator to help students meet their fullest potential by
providing an environment that is safe, friendly, and invites a sharing of ideas. Creating a
safe and friendly classroom environment is another approach which I believe would do
best for my learners. Being in a safe and secure learning setting can help learners attain
maximum learning as each learner needs a caring and encouraging atmosphere in
which they can grow and mature emotionally, intellectually, physically, and socially.

“Train up a child in the way that he should go, and when he is old, he will not
depart from it” (Proverbs 22:6). Educate the heart as well as the mind, this is the
teaching philosophy that I will try to employ in my classes, for I believe that character is
as important as knowledge. Character education, I believe, is the ultimate purpose of
education – to make responsible and good-hearted citizens out of each of my learner.
Finally, role-modeling, the one which I believe the most effective way of encouraging
good character, is my best strategy. The young ones are studious observers of what
grownups do. As a future teacher, I would teach good character not merely on the
lessons I teach, but on the life I lead.
