Vedang

Vedang means limbs of the Veda. These are six auxiliary disciplines associated

with the study and understanding of Vedas. These are

1. Shiksha ( श ा) – Related to pronunciation of mantras. There are 32 types

in this relating to different branches of the four vedas.

2. Kalpa (क प)– Details of rituals per Karma Kanda.

3. Vyaakaran ( याकरण) – Deals with Grammar.

4. Nirukta ( न त)– Gives meaning of difficult vedic words

5. Chhanda (छं द)– Details of poetic metres on which the vedas are set

6. Jyotish ( यो तष)– Astrology and Astronomy

Concept of Kaalpurush (Supernatual Human)

 A supernatural human visualised by combining all the cycles of life known

as Kaalpurush.

 The body of KALAPURUSHA has been divided into twelve parts known as

BHAVA and each Bhava has been assigned to a sign commencing from

ARIES.

 Each Bhava is further assigned to a specific part of the body of the KALA-

PURUSHA.

Types of Kundali

 In India, different types of Kundalis are prepared i.e.,

o North Indian style,

o South Indian style,

North Indian style:

o houses are fixed and the twelve houses don’t change their places.

o The signs change on the basis of rising Ascendant. When the

Ascendant rises, it is believed to be present in the first house.

o All the other astrological signs are considered to be present in the

following houses according to their order in the zodiac.

South Indian Style:

o In south Indian style, astrological signs are considered to be fixed.

However, houses keep on changing.

o Unlike North Indian Style, Ascendant house can be present

anywhere.

o The number of signs is not mentioned in the Kundali as the sign is

fixed in the south Indian style.
