Important Points for Maintenance

1. Check-out on the Flame Rod and Ignition Plug:(page 22)

The durability of the ignition plug and the flame rod have
been improved, however; a high heat causes deterioration of
their performances. In order to keep the performance of the
heater in shape, check on the flame rod and the ignition plug

each time of maintenance service.

2. Check-out on the Fuel Channels:

Dust, a small piece of thread, or other material stuck on the
pump filter may cause ignition failure, lift, or lost flames due
to the fewer flow of fuel. Check the pump filter once in a
while and clean it if necessary. If the dust doesn’t come off,
replace the pump filter.

3. Cleaning of the Heater:

Dusts accumulated inside the heater and attached to the
convection fan and the convection fan guard must be

removed clean. Otherwise, it causes the safety thermostat
to be activated to turn off the heater by overheating inside of Convection Fan
the heater. Guard

4. Cleaning of the Warm Air Outlet Grille:

Dust tends to accumulate on and around the warm air outlet grille where burned dust adheres.
Clean first with a wet cloth, and then a dry duster.

5. Fuel to be used

Kerosene to be used

● Use only uncontaminated kerosene which is recommended by a dealer or a distributor.

● Never use highly volatile fuel, such as gasoline, because it becomes cause of a fire.
● Never use poor quality kerosene, impure kerosene and kerosene adulterated with water.
● Never use any additive.
● Be sure to store in a place avoiding fire, rain water, dust, high temperature and direct sunlight.

What are poor quality kerosene and impure kerosene?

● Last season's kerosene

● Kerosene stored in a place where has been exposed to sunlight for a long time
● Kerosene stored in a container with a cap opened for a long time
● Kerosene which has been mixed with minuscule amounts of water, dust, or different type of
fuel other than kerosene.
(water, dust, gasoline, light oil, machine oil, cooking oil, etc.)

What happens if poor quality kerosene is used?

● The heater becomes difficult to ignite, or the heater cannot ignite.

● White smoke appears before ignition.
● Flame condition is abnormal (big lift) and kerosene have a strong odor. It may make your
eyes sting.
● The heater shuts off during use.
● White smoke comes from the heater after turning off, and kerosene have a strong odor for a
while even after the heater is turned off.

If poor quality kerosene is used, tar accumulates inside of the evaporator, and it may prevent
gasification of kerosene.

How to repair the heater filled with poor quality kerosene

① Remove poor quality kerosene from the fuel tank and the fixed tank.
② (In case tar adheres to inside of the evaporator) Replace the evaporator.
※ If you scrape tar by a flat-blade screwdriver, heat resistant coating painted inside of the
evaporator will be removed. It causes production of noise of kerosene vaporization, especially
in low heating operation.

6. Negative influences of silicone, etc.

If the user uses products containing silicone, etc. in the room where the heater is in use,
silicone, etc. get into the heater unit, and white-colored oxide adhere to around the flame
rod. Then, the following phenomena appear; the heater cannot ignite or flames go out
while the heater is in use. Scattered and evaporated silicone, etc. are invisible.

Principle of negative influences of silicone, etc.

Kerosene fan heater monitors combustion state by measuring flow of an electric current
between the flame rod and the burner, and is shut down when flame condition become
unstable, judging it as incomplete combustion.
If a user uses commercial products containing silicone, etc. in a room where heater is in use,
silicone, etc. which are scattered and vaporized in the air, get into inside of combustion
chamber together with combustion air. Next, silicone, etc. turn "silicone oxide (white colored
powder)" due to the high temperature and adhere to the flame rod and the burner head.
Silicone oxide blocks the flow of electricity because of its high electrical insulating properties.
So, even though flame condition is normal, the microcomputer judges it as abnormal, and the
heater may be shut down sometimes.

Examples of commercial products containing silicone,

etc.
● Toiletries (hair care products including hair treatment cream and split end mender,
creams including for moisturizing, etc.)
● Water repellent, fabric conditioner, etc. for clothes and textile products (waterproofing
spray, ironing spray, static guard, wrinkle release spray, etc.)
● Polish and protective material for furniture and floor, etc.

[Note] ・ All manufacturers' products do not necessarily contain silicone. Please check
with each manufacturer regarding ingredients of their products.
・ Depending on hinging on volatile, compounding ratio, amount used, etc.,
influences of silicone differ substantially.

How to judge whether failure is caused by silicone or not

・ Surface of warm air outlet turns white color.
・ Surface of the burner head and the flame rod turns white color.
・ During combustion in combustion test mode, flame voltage cannot be detected
adequately, despite no problem about flame condition in appearance.

How to repair the heater which is out of order due to silicone
① Polish or replace the flame rod.
② Polish or replace the burner head.

To prevent negative effect caused by silicone, etc.

● Avoid the use of commercial products containing silicone, etc. as much as possible,
when the heater is in use.
● When a user uses products containing silicone, etc., the heater should be shut down
completely. And, the adequate ventilation should be provided after use of these
products. After that, the heater should be turned on again.
