Time frame: 1-2 weeks

National Core Art Standards:


VA:Cr1.2.Ia: Shape an artistic investigation of an aspect of present day life using a
contemporary practice of art or design.

VA:Re.7.2.Ia: Analyze how one’s understanding of the world is affected by experiencing visual
imagery.

Lesson Objectives (what will the students do):


Students will plan a thumbnail design for a Fauvist style composition.
Students will create an crayon composition using a place from you person experiences.

Learning Targets (what do you want the students to leave with):


Students will be able to create an original landscape composition inspired by the Fauvist
movement using only crayon.

Procedures (what will you do , what will they do):


I Do:
Present Fauvist movement: background and artist
Demonstrate examples of fauvist compositions.

You Do:
Create thumbnail sketches of proposed plans.
Lightly sketch artwork on drawing paper then use crayon to complete.
Write an artist statement that explains artwork.

Assessment:
1. Thumbnail ideas.
2. Execution of ideas in a drawing.
3. Relevance to personal experience.
4. Explanation in artist statement.
