Foreword

This foreword is for information only and is not part of the standard.

NEMA established the standard efficiency of distribution transformers in TP 1, Guide for Determining
Energy Efficiency for Distribution Transformers.

TP 2 establishes the test procedures to test the transformers for no load loss and load loss for the
purpose of establishing the conformance of the transformer efficiency to the established minimum
efficiency of TP 1.

This standards publication establishes the procedure for labeling all such distribution transformers that
meet the criteria of the established efficiency of TP 1.

This standards publication was developed by the Transformer Products Section. Section approval of the
standard does not necessarily imply that all section members voted for its approval or participated in its
development. Proposed or recommended revisions should be submitted to:

Section 1
STANDARD FOR LABELING

1.1 Scope
This standard defines the labeling of distribution transformers tested to the efficiency levels specified in
TP 1. The label shall be affixed to the transformer in a permanent manner. The label becomes the
certificate of conformance to the established efficiency of the transformer.

1.2 Label
The label may be type A or type B, at the option of the manufacturer:

Type A: The conformance statement shall be part of the main transformer's nameplate.

Type B: The conformance statement shall be on a separate nameplate from the main transformer
nameplate and be of the same material affixed in the same manner.

1.3 Efficiency Statement

The following statement shall be on the label: “Meets TP-1-1996 efficiency.”

1.4 Information on the Label

The following information shall be on the labels:

Type A:
1. Transformer serial, catalogue or style number

2. Efficiency statement

Type B:
1. Transformer serial, catalogue or style number

2. Efficiency statement

1.5 Label Location

The type B label shall be of the same material as the main transformer nameplate and mounted in close
proximity.
