G8 - RESEARCH II - SLM Week 1 - CUETO - AM 1
Directions: Follow the steps in solving problems through a simple experiment to test the hypotheses.
Answer the guide questions in the Presentation of Data.
PROBLEMS:
1. Why do some objects fall faster than others?
2. What factors affect an object’s rate of fall?
HYPOTHESES:
1. The weight of an object affects its rate of fall. A heavier object would fall faster than a lighter one.
2. The size of an object affects its rate of fall. A smaller object would fall faster than a bigger one.
3. The shape on object affects its rate of fall.
4. The air affects an object’s rate of fall.
TESTING HYPOTHESIS 1
Materials: a piece of stone and ½ sheet of paper cut cross wise
Procedure: 1. Crumple the paper until it is as big as the stone.
2. Drop the stone and the crumpled paper from the same height at the same time.
TESTING HYPOTHESIS 2
Materials: crumpled paper used in testing hypothesis 1
½ sheet of paper cut cross wise
Procedure: 1. Crumple the ½ sheet of paper just a bit, so that its size is greater than that
of the first crumpled paper.
2. Drop the two crumpled pieces of paper from the same height at the same time.
TESTING HYPOTHESIS 3
Materials: two pieces of ½ sheet of paper cut crosswise
Procedure: 1. Fold one piece of paper into a toy airplane. Leave the other piece of paper unfolded.
2. Drop the two objects face down, from the same height at the same time.
TESTING HYPOTHESIS 4 Plan your own way of testing Hypothesis 4.

Subject : RESEARCH II STE Grade 8 (Quarter 1)
PRESENTATION OF DATA:
HYPOTHESIS 1
a. Which one falls faster: the piece of stone or the crumpled ½ sheet of paper cut cross wise?
b. Which one is heavier: the piece of stone or the crumpled ½ sheet of paper cut cross wise?
c. Does weight affect an object’s rate of fall: Yes or No? Explain your answer.
HYPOTHESIS 2
a. Which one falls faster: the crumpled paper used in testing hypothesis 1 or the ½ sheet of paper
cut cross wise?
b. Does the size of an object affect its rate of fall: Yes or No? Explain your answer.
HYPOTHESIS 3
a. Which piece of paper falls faster: the paper airplane or the unfolded ½ sheet of paper?
b. Does the shape of an object affect its rate of fall: Yes or No? Explain your answer.
HYPOTHESIS 4
a. Explain your simple experiment to test Hypothesis 4 in not more than 50 words.
b. Does air affect an object’s rate of fall?
CONCLUSION
a. In the presence of air, what factors affect an object’s rate of fall?
b. If air friction is disregarded, how do ALL objects fall?

Directions: Meet with your group mates through Messenger video call or Google meet. The list of
groupings will be sent to you through Messenger. You are required to accomplish
the following:
1. Choose a leader for your (SIP) Science Investigatory Project group. He/she will be the group
leader in the duration of the research study from Grade 8 to Grade 10.
2. List down all possible SIP topics that your group can accomplish. Only one topic will
be subjected for approval.
3. The group leader will submit:
(a) list of possible SIP topics through Messenger
(b) grades of group members based on their participation in online meeting
(to be submitted together with written outputs during retrieval)
