WRIT OF CERTIORARI - a decision by the Supreme Court to hear an appeal from a lower

court.
- the primary means to petition the court for review is to ask it to
grant a writ of certiorari. This is a request that the Supreme Court
order a lower court to send up the record of the case for review.
WRIT OF PROHIBITION - is a writ directing a subordinate to stop doing something the law
prohibits. This writ is often issued by a superior court to the lower
court directing it not to proceed with a case which does not fall under
its jurisdiction.
WRIT OF MANDAMUS - a writ issued by a superior court commanding the performance of a
specified official act or duty.
WRIT OF QUO WARRANTO - is a special form of legal action used to resolve a dispute over
whether a specific person has the legal right to hold public office that
he/ she occupies. It is used to test a person’s legal right to hold an
office, not to evaluate the person’s performance in the office.
WRIT OF HABEAS CORPUS - it is a law stating that an individual cannot be imprisoned or held in
custody inside a prison cell unless he/she has first been brought
before a court of law, which decides whether or not it is legal for the
person to be kept in prison.
WRIT OF AMPARO - is a remedy available to any person whose right to life, liberty and
(protection) security is violated or threatened with violation by an unlawful act or
omission of a public official or employee, or of a private individual or
entity.
WRIT OF HABEAS DATA - is a remedy available to any person whose right to life, liberty and
(access to information) security is violated or threatened with violation by an unlawful act or
omission of a public official or employee, or of a private individual or
entity engaged in the gathering, collecting or storing data or
information.
WRIT OF KALIKASAN - is a legal remedy under the Philippines law that provides protection
of one’s constitutional right to a healthy environment, as outlined in
Section 16, Article II of the Philippine Constitution, which stated that
the “state shall protect and advance the right of the people to a
balanced and healthful”.
