A REFLECTION PAPER REGARDING THE PHILIPPINE PROFESSIONAL STANDARDS

FOR TEACHERS (PPST)
Learning is a continuous process that does not stop after the learner graduates from school.
The role of an educator plays an essential part in the development of the student in which they
will carry the necessary skills and knowledge to be one of the major players in society. The
Professional Standards for Teachers (PPST) is the guideline to bring this goal into reality through
an effective learning strategy that can make the students educate more efficiently.
I believe that PPST is an important system to follow since it is apprehended that education is
the foundation for successful nation-building in any part of the world. Especially that education
must move forward together with the modernization of the society. As a 21 st-century student, I
observe that the educational system still follows the format of the 19 th, which is an undesirable
set-up to adapt. However, with the help of the PPST, I am looking forward that the teachers who
adopt this guideline will be equipped with the right strategy and lesson plan to make the
students’ learning experience more exciting yet informative. Furthermore, using PPST plays a
crucial role during this pandemic by using technology to avoid academic freeze, which can be
detrimental to our society.
An educational system is a limited form of a platform bound by the implementation itself to
make effective learning happen; however, if the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) and
the Department of Education (DepEd) are planning to produce a quality education, it is important
to invest more in teachers and second will be the facilities. Because for me, the capabilities of a
teacher are limitless and they possess boundless ability to make the quality education that we
desire.
Education is not only limited to the lesson that the teachers provide to its student, education
must also consider the situation and the difficulties of the students. As a student, I believe that
the teacher must also understand that the student possesses different learning capabilities and not
just focus on their lesson plan. A teacher that can manifest this skill will not only be an effective
teacher but also, they can be a teacher that the student will never forget.
Aside from the different qualities that the teachers must possess according to the PPST, it
was also stated in the guideline that the learning environment must also be considered in which a
distinguished teacher can apply comprehensive knowledge and act as a resource person for
policies, guidelines, and procedures that relate to the implementation of safe and secured
learning environment for learners.
As a result, the utilization of PPST as a guideline and standard for teachers to follow seems
to be an effective and remarkable implementation to establish in order to produce students that
are competent enough to be part of society. Moreover, teachers and other forms of educators are
vital in the molding of a person’s skills, attitude, knowledge, and integrity. In line with this, if a
teacher can successfully manifest all the mentioned qualities of a teacher, nation-building in the
Philippines will not just be a dream.
