BLUE DART OVERVIEW:

Blue Dart Express - Indian logistics company that provides courier delivery
services. It is headquartered in Mumbai, Maharashtra. It has a subsidiary cargo
airline, Blue Dart Aviation that operates in South Asian countries. In 2002, Blue
Dart had a business alliance with DHL Express and on 8 November 2004, DHL
Express invested €120 million in it, and since then has been a
major shareholder in the company.
PRODUCTS AND SERVICES:

As a technology leader in the business of supply-chain management in the
country, Blue Dart Express Limited recognised the far-reaching scope of the
internet in 1996, and has been exploring web-based solutions to extend the range
of services available to its customers and integrate them into its core products. It
has evolved an e-strategy.

This e-strategy encompasses E-Solutions to deliver additional process


efficiencies to business by allowing them access to Blue Dart's e-shipping
tools and integration with its e-business tools.

The basic tracking solution will enable Blue Dart's customers to track their
shipments, through single or multiple waybills, on-line. Customers can check the
status of their shipments using a waybill number or a reference number.
A mail-based solution will allow the customers to query status of their
shipments using e-mail.

Registered customers of Blue Dart can make advanced queries on the status of
their shipments, and can keep track of them for up to 90 days on-line. They can
filter their queries by date range, origin, destination and service, and sort the
results on-line. Registered customers can download the entire waybill tracking
data - schedule the download, and select the frequency and the data to be
downloaded. These customers can also generate and download various reports
customised to meet their individual needs.

Dart Surface line is an economical, door-to-door, ground distribution service to

The invoice value of the shipment booked by you will be collected from

The invoice value of the shipment booked by you will be collected from
the consignee in the form of a demand draft at the time of the delivery. The
demand draft collected from the consignee will be returned back to you to

• FOD (Freight on Delivery)

The freight of the shipment will be collected from the consignee at the time
of delivery.

damaged or lost while in BDE custody, BDE would assist you in the claim

Schedule-a-pickup service allows you to register a pickup online for all
services that require a door pickup. This service is available for locations
serviced by Blue Dart. Currently, this service is only available from
Kolkata, Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore and Chennai - Mondays to Saturdays.

CHALLENGES FACED:

➢ Blue Dart's Anil Khanna opens up on the steps his firm is taking to tackle
the logistical nightmare that comes along with the festive season.
➢ This is one of the busiest weeks for India's top retailers such as Flipkart,
Snapdeal and Amazon. All of these retailers are eyeing manifold volume
growth in sales through the ongoing Diwali festival rush by offering deep
discounts across product categories. This volume surge obviously creates
immense pressure on delivery partners to keep customers happy by
delivering packages in time.
➢ Last year, package deliveries were painful and customers vented their ire
at many of the big retailers for delays and damage. Sudden volume surge
poses a big challenge to delivery partners of these retailers - whether these
are in-house logistics firms or express delivery partners. Anil Khanna, the
managing director of Blue Dart, spoke to First post about the challenges
these sales festivals pose for his firm and how he plans to overcome them.
The first innovation he spoke of was the launch of a parcel locker, the first
such initiative by a logistics firm. This provides customers an option to
pick up their parcels from a close-by locker instead of waiting for doorstep
delivery. Blue Dart claims to hold 40 percent revenue share of the entire
etailers' logistics market.
