LAAMS Newsletter Issue No.1| September 9, 2022

Hello students and families. My name is Nancy Romero, GATE and STEAM Magnet
Coordinator for our school. This is my second year as the Magnet Coordinator but have
been teaching at this amazing program since 2017. I am excited to welcome you to the
2022-2023 school year and share all the STEAM events your child and you will be
participating. One of my goals for this year is to communicate at least monthly through our
monthly newsletters. Let us thank our amazing leadership students for completing our
newsletters. We want to build a strong connection and relationships with all students and
families.

Hola estudiantes y familias. Mi nombre es Nancy Romero, coordinadora GATE y STEAM

Magnet de nuestra escuela. Este es mi segundo año como Coordinador Magnet, pero he
estado enseñando en este increíble programa desde 2017. Estoy emocionado de darle la
bienvenida al año escolar 2022-2023 y compartir todos los eventos STEAM en los que
participarán su hijo y usted. Una de mis metas para este año es comunicarme al menos
una vez al mes a través de nuestros boletines informativos. Agradezcamos a nuestros

Upcoming Holiday
Do you know why we have no school on
September 26? We do not have school
because it is a Jewish Holiday called Rosh
Hashanah. For the Jewish community it is
their New Year festival, which for them is on
the first day of Tishri in September. The
reason why the Jewish community celebrates
Rosh Hashanah so people can reflect on the
past year and ask for forgiveness.

class, do your work, participate, and be in
your best behavior. Maybe you can be the

 Announcements
E-Choice and Zone of Choice High School Fair
Los Angeles Academy will be hosting a High School Fair on September 28,
2022 from 4pm-6pm. Everyone is invited to learn about the programs. This is
a wonderful opportunity for our 8th grade students because the E-choice
applications and Zone of Choice opens on October 3, 2022. More information,
please contact Ms. Garcia/Ms. Iniguez (Counselor).

STEAM Magnet Highlights
STEAM Magnet Summer Bridge
This Summer, Los Angeles Academy Middle School STEAM
Magnet participated in the Project ECHO with Linked Learning
and LAUSD. This program develops leadership skills in
students as they work in teams and ideate and innovate
solutions to industry problems. The program culminated in a
Pitch Competition, where business teams pitch their start-up
ideas to panels of judges, just like the entrepreneurs on Shark
Tank! Some of our students were interviewed by the news and
radio media. What an exciting experience for our
students.Thank you Ms. Moreno and Mr.Xu for leading our
students during Summer Bridge.
STEAM Magnet Puente de Verano
Este verano, Los Angeles Academy Middle School STEAM
Magnet participó en el Proyecto ECHO con Linked Learning y
LAUSD. Este programa desarrolla habilidades de liderazgo en
los estudiantes mientras trabajan en equipos e idean e
innovan soluciones a los problemas de la industria. El
programa culminó con una competencia de presentación,
donde los equipos de negocios presentaron sus ideas de
puesta en marcha a paneles de jueces, ¡al igual que los
empresarios de Shark Tank! Algunos de nuestros alumnos
fueron entrevistados por los medios de noticias y radio. Qué
experiencia tan emocionante para nuestro alumnos. Gracias a
Ms. Moreno y Mr. Xu por guiar a nuestros estudiantes en el
Puente de Verano.
