STORAGE PROCEDURE
Doc.No: GF-GGTU-M-VD-13008 Page : 3 of 6

1.0 Packing:
- Loose parts shall be packed in suitable wooden crates / boxes as may be convenient for
Handling. (e.g.: Power line system, Main switch, Rising cable)
- Runway rail shall be bundled with steel strap at adequate interval of the length. Standard Rail
Length is 6m.
- The crane shall be dispatched in fully assembled condition or partially dismantled condition as
required based on transport constraint.

2.0 Corrosion protection:

The Structural and electro mechanical components are painted as per the project document for
corrosion protection. Unpainted machined surfaces are applied with rust preventive coating using
SHELL ALVANIA FETT R3. The Crane rails are applied with a coat of primer for corrosion protection.
The Power supply system and accessories are packed in sea-worthy wooden case.

If the equipment is not installed immediately upon receipt, it must be stored properly to prevent
corrosion and deterioration.

3.0 Storage instruction for Packed goods (Power line system & accessories):
Packed goods can normally be kept in a closed warehouse for up to four years provided that
temperature is no lower than -20°C or higher than +60°C and humidity level do not exceed 70%.
If, for any reason, humidity levels were to exceed +60% or storage were to continue for a longer
period it would be necessary to carry out some extra preliminary operations before setting the
machine to work (see Page-4). No other packages must be placed on top of the crates.

4.0 Storage instruction for Cranes / Hoists:

4.1 Guidelines for Short term storage (Less than 3 months):
1) Place the equipment under adequate cover with the following requirements:
a) Keep the equipment clean and dry, protected from precipitation, direct sun light, rain and flooding.
b) Use only breathable (canvas type) covering material – do not use plastic.

2) Maintain the following environment in the storage enclosure:

a) Ambient storage temperature limits from -20 °C to 60 °C.
b) Surrounding air free of dust and corrosive elements, such as saline or chemical contamination.
c) Ambient relative humidity from 5 to 70% with provisions to prevent condensation.
d) Precautions should be taken to prevent rodents, snakes, birds or other small animals from
nesting inside the motor, the hoist and the control cabinet. In areas where they are prevalent,
precautions must be taken to prevent insects, such as wasps, from gaining access to the interior
of the motor, hoist, terminal box and control cabinet.
e) Avoid temperature variations that cause moisture condensation on the equipment

4.2 Guidelines for Long term storage (More than 3 months):

The following preservation instructions describe actions which when followed ensure that the

functionability of the crane is maintained throughout a corresponding storage period.

Protection of the product against external influences and effects must be ensured, Storage in a dry,

well-aired room as described above.

REQUIREMENT GROUP:

A: Storage time approx. 12 months, Normal conditions

B: Storage time approx. 24 months, Normal conditions
C: Storage time approx. 36 months, Abnormal conditions
D: Storage time approx. 48 months, Abnormal conditions

The preservation measures must be checked periodically and added to or corrected as necessary.

The preservation measures must be removed or eliminated before erection or commissioning.

Carrying out the first maintenance as per operating instructions is recommended.

SOURCES:

* Lubricants : Commercially available (Lubricant table for cranes and hoists)

* Preserving oil : Shell ENSIS OIL SDC / Renolin MR 40 Z

* Desiccant : Silica Gel (DIN 55473 )

5.0 Action required after Long period of storage:

The following actions are to be carried out before setting the equipment to operation which have

undergone a long period of storage on the site or inactivity:

STRUCTURES:

a) Remove protection from threaded holes, e.g. end carriages to crane beams fixings, if

necessary by taping.

b) Remove protection, lubricant, paint or any corrosion from bright matching surfaces,

eg.end carriages to crane beam.

c) Repair any damage to crane beam flanges (single girder cranes) or trolley rail top (double girder

cranes) that may have been caused by mishandling or improper/longer storage.

d) Using correct paint, touch up parts that have been affected by handling & improper/longer storage.

MECHANISM:

a) Check there are no leaks of lubricant from the reducers and replaced any damaged seals.

b) Top up the lubricating oil.

c) Check all the elements which hold the mechanisms to the structures are tight

d) Remove any traces of corrosion from rotating or sliding pins such as limit switches, control

pins, saddles for activating micro-switches, control chains for various components.

e) Check any carrion of the wires which make up the rope. Clean the metal ropes, the pulley

grooves and the lifting drums. Lubricate with specified type of lubricant.

f) Lubricate the axle ball bearing of the hooks.

ELECTRICAL PARTS:

a) Check the overall condition.

b) Motors: remove all condensation from the inside sucking air through the open terminal box or

after having taken off the end cover. Dry blasts or air.

c) Disk brakes: open the brake cover and remove all disks. Dry using air, check the condition

and efficiency of the springs. Put the disks back after having carefully cleaned the braking

surface and restored the air gap.

d) Limit switches: limit switches much be checked carefully to establish their good running order

both from the mechanical and electrical point of view. Particularly lubricate the moving joints

and pins.

e) Control switchgear: all casing, remove condensation, dry the contacts, of the remote controls

switches. Check the condition of any electronic cards. Spray all components with suitable

cleaner/degreaser. Apply Vaseline to the closing sections and to threaded covers of all the

explosion-proof containers after having cleaned the surface carefully.

f) Carry out insulation test at 2000V after having insulated any bridge rectifiers/electronic cards

g) Check all electric lines and loops slide easily and if necessary, lubricate cable trolley wheels

after having carefully cleaned the railways.

i) Thorough check should be carried out on the push-button pendant: remove condensation,

check that the contacts are working properly, and that the terminals are well-secured.

For explosion-proof version check the pins turn perfectly and the small control pistons slide

properly, and then lubricate.
