“Analysis of the medals won by India, China, USA from 1998 to 2016”

The data for the analysis is taken from the Olympics history of 120 years
Using this data four levels of measurements are done. They are

Nominal Data

Considering Nominal data as Gender, we have made a pie chart representing the number and
percentage of male and females who won medals from 1998 to 2016 from India, China, USA

Olympics Medal Winner Gender Percentage

668 F
44.06%
848 M
55.94%

From the above pie chart, we can see that out of 1516 people who won the medals 55.94%
percent i.e., 848 are females and 44.06% i.e., 668 are males.

So, we can say that maximum medals are won by females than male.
2) Ordinal Data:

Considering Ordinal data as Medals, we have made two bar charts

1. Representing the count of three different medals (Gold, Silver, and Bronze)

Count of Medals
1200
1009
1000

800 726
Count

612
600
Total
400

200

Bronze Gold Silver
Category of Medal

From the above bar chart, it can be seen that number of gold medals won are more compared to
Silver and Bronze by India, China and USA

2. Representing the number of medals won by men and women on behalf of India, China and the
United States respectively.

Count of Medals
450
411
400
350 314
Number of Medals

300 294

250 229 Bronze - F

217 Bronze - M

200 169 Gold - F
145 Gold - M

117 114
Silver - F
100 70 54 Silver - M

CHN IND USA
Country
From the above graph we can say that number of medals won by Indian player are only 13 from
1998 to 2016 and no female has won a gold medal in this period of time, but females of USA has
won more medals when compared with males and females of the all the three countries and USA
has won a greater number of medals.

So, from this analysis we can say that USA is concentrating more on sports and investing more
on sports compared with China and Inda.

3) Interval Data:

Considering intervals as the years we have made two histograms

Histogram

Bins Frequency
No of Medals issued

1996-2000 370
2000-2004 458
2004-2008 569
2008-2012 495
2012-2016 455

370 458 569 495 455

1996-2000 2000-2004 2004-2008 2008-2012 2012-2016
Bins

The above histogram represents the number of medals won between few years in which India,
USA and China Participated.

As the number of medals won in between the years 2004 to 2008 are more compared to the rest,
we can say that the players were more actively participating in that period of time.
4) Ratio Data:

Here considering Ratio data as Height and depending variable as Weight scatter plot is created

The above scatter plot is plotted using the data of all Indian players who won the medals from
1998 to 2016.

From the plot we can observe that as the height of the players is increasing the depending
variable i.e., weight also increases. So, we can say that height and weight of the Indian players is
a positive correlation.
