“Out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaketh." In communicating, we

need to express with love, for love is the language of heaven- it is God's character. In
reaching different cultures and colors, love can transform prejudice; it paves the way
for better understanding and develops lasting relationships. The essence of this
learning design lies in the most profound need of humans these days- LOVE. And now
abideth faith, hope, and love, the greatest of these is LOVE. The good news is
embedded in God's love. We LOVE Him because He first loved us. 1 John 4:19

LEAN ON
ANTS

“Go to the ant, you sluggard; consider its ways and be wise! It has no commander, no
overseer or ruler, yet it stores its provisions in summer and gathers its food at harvest .”
Proverbs 6:6-8

Greetings, fellow Pathfinders! It’s quite long since we had our last adventure. Are you
ready for the next exciting one? If so, we will begin this with a prayer.

Dear Lord, please help us to work hard and be wise to reach our goal. Help us also
to focus ourselves on our tasks that we may have no room for laziness. Amen.

Try to observe the ants at work

either in dirt, sand, or anywhere you
see them. What do they do with their
food? Even how heavy it is for them,
yet they store to save it instead of
eating it on the spot. What lessons do
these little creatures trying to teach
us? Hard work. Responsibility. Those
are the two things that make these
little ones productive. They are
working together towards a goal.

Do we have a tendency towards laziness? We can use our time wisely. Proverb
30:24-25 says, “Four things on earth are small, yet they are extremely wise: ants are
creatures of little strength, yet they sore up their food on summer.”
Cite some instances that show your “being responsible” of something.

I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud

By William Wordsworth

I III
I wandered lonely as a cloud The waves beside them danced;
That floats on high oe’r vales and hills, But they the sparkling waves in glee;
Well at once I saw a crowd, A poet could not but be gay,
A host, of golden daffodils; I such a jocund company:
Beside the lake, beneath the trees, I gazed – and gazed – but little thought
Fluttering and dancing in the breeze. What wealth the show to me had brought:
II IV
Continous as the stars that shine For oft, when on my couch I lie
And twinkle on the milky way, In vacant or pensive mood,
They stretched in never-ending line They flash upon that inward eye
Along the margin of a bay: Which is the bliss of solitude;
Ten thousand saw I as a glance, And then my heart with pleasure fills,
Tossing their heads in sprightly dance. and dances with the daffodills.

B. Imagery. Poets also used imagery in their works. IMAGERY is the use of vivid
descriptive words to appeal to the senses of the readers and for them to visualize what
the author is describing. When Wordsworth said, I wandered lonely as a cloud, that
floats on o’er vales and hills,” what do you see in your mind? This is imagery.

Task 3: Keep Trying!

Read the examples given in the boxes below, then, underline the words that made
you see
what were described.
The sea was wet as wet could be
How soft is the nature’s calm repose The sands were dry as dry.
When ev’ning skies their cool dews weep: You could not see a cloud, because
The gentlest wind more gently blows, No cloud was in the sky:
As if to sooth her in her sleep! No birds were flying overhead –
There were no birds to fly.
(From Lucy’s Song by Charles Dickens) (from the Walrus and the Carpenter by Lewis
Carol)

C. Figurative Language. There are many types of FIGURATIVE LANGUAGE. The
most common types are simile and metaphor.

 SIMILE is a clear and direct comparison between two things that are not alike. It
often uses the words “like” or “as.”
Page |
Examples:
5
1. Your teeth are like stars.
2. You were as brave as a lion.
3. They fought like cats and dogs.
4. He is as funny as a barrel of monkeys.
5. This house is as clean as a whistle.

 METAPHOR is a comparison made between two different things without using

the words “like” or “as.”
Examples:
1. The night is a big black cat.
2. Laughter is the music of the soul.
3. Her lovely voice was music to his ears.
4. My kid's room is a disaster area.
5. Life is a rollercoaster.

 PERSONIFICATION is another type of figurative language in which an object,

animal, or idea is given human characteristics. When we say, “The heavens
heard the cry of the people,” we think of heaven as a person who can hear.
More examples:
1. Lightning danced across the sky.
2. The wind howled in the night.
3. The car complained as the key was roughly turned in its ignition.
4. Rita heard the last piece of pie calling her name.
5. My alarm clock yells at me to get out of bed every morning.

Task 4: Keep Trying More!

A. Read and analyze the poem “Trees” by Joyce Kilmer. Underline the phrases where
you see figurative language used.

5|Page
I think I shall never see
A poem as lovely as a tree.
A tree whose hungry mouth is pressed
Against the earth’s sweet flowing breast;
A tree that looks at God all day, Page |
6
And lifts her leafy arms to pray;
A tree that may in summer wear
A nest of robin in her hair;
Upon whose bosom snow has lain;
Who intimately lives with rain.
Poems are made by fools like me,
But only God can make a tree.

A. TREE RESCUE
A saying says, “It takes a minute to cut a tree but it takes years to grow.”
Go around your backyard and look for a seedling to rescue. If you spot one
growing in wrong area you may pluck it out (ask a consent first from your parents) and
transplant it in a most suitable place. Take extra care until you see it growing very well.
Imagine that if there are 100 of you doing the rescue, then there would be an
additional hundred trees to grow in the next few years. You are rescuing mother earth!

Paste your picture here as document.

B. Write a poem of your favorite tree (1 to 2 stanzas only ). Use the

different elements of the poem.

Reflect: Color the column under each number. Number 1 means I can do
little about it, 2 means I can do it but needs more practice, 3 means, I can do it but
needs a little guidance, 4 means I can do it alone.
