WHAT IS ARITHMETIC
SOLVING REAL LIFE SEQUENCE?

SITUATION PROBLEMS
INVOLVING Arithmetic Sequence-a sequence where

ARITHMETIC SEQUENCE
the difference between each term and
the preceeding term is constant

AND GEOMETRIC (adding/subtracting the same number

repeatedly)
SEQUENCE
FORMULA
So our formula that we will be using is

an=a1+(n-1)d
an = the nth term in the sequence
a1 = the first term in the sequence
d = the common difference between terms
.
PROBLEM NO 1.
1.My Ninong Jhun is a skydiver.During a free-fall, ninong Jhun jumps 18 feet,54 feet, and 90
feet on the first, second, and third fall, respectively.If he continues to jump at this rate, how
many feet will he have jumped during the tenth fall?

So lets identify the given,the given is:

an=(we are looking for the 10th term)

a1=10
n=10
d=in order to get the common difference(d) we need to subtract 18 feet from 54 feet,so that
is 54 minus 18 is equal to =36
therefore 36 is the common difference d=36
GIVEN FORMULA
an=? an=a1+(n-1)d
a1=18 a10=18+(10-1)36
n=10 a10=18+(9)(36)
d=36 a10=18+324
a10=342 => 342 feet
PROBLEM NO 2.
2.My tito's car travels 180m in the first minute, 250m the next minute, 320m the third
minute, and so on in an arithmetic sequence.Find the distance traveled after 5 minutes.

So lets identify the given

THE GIVEN IS FORMULA

an=? an=a1+(n-1)d
a1=180. a5=180+(5-1)70
n=5. a5=180+(4)(70)
d=70 (180-250) a5=180+280
a5=460
PROBLEM NO 3.
3.A school's court has 17 seats on the first row, 22 seats on the second row, 27 seats on
the third row, and so on and has 20 rows of seats.How many seats are in the court

So lets identify the given

THE GIVEN IS FORMULA

Sn=? Sn=n/2 [2a1+(n-1)d]
a1=17 S20=20/2[2 (17)+(19-1)5]
n=20. S20=10 [34+(18)(5)]
d=5 S20=10 (34+90)
S20=10 (124) => S20=1,240 is the total number of
And after that we will now talk about solving Geometric
Sequence

but before that What is Geometric

Sequence
In mathematics, a geometric progression, also known as
Geometric Sequence, is a sequence of non zero numbers
where each term after the first is found by multiplying
the previous one by a fixed, non-zero number called the
common ratio.
FORMULA
FORMULA
an=a1 (r)^n-1

an=nth term
a1=first term
r=common ratio
n=term position
PROBLEM NUMBER 4.
GEOMETRIC
SEQUENCE 4.A culture of bacteria doubles every 1 hour.If there
are 400 bacteria at the beginning, how many
bacteria will there be after 8 hours?

GIVEN FORMULA
an=? an=a1r^n-1
a1=400. a8=400 (2)^8-1
n=8. a8=400 (2)^7
r=2. a8=400 (128)
Therefore the answer is: a8=51,200
