Topic/Title Protein Synthesis

Year Level
Time Allotment 60 minutes
Learning Competencies and Objectives
At the end of this lesson the students should be able to;
 Explain the process of protein synthesis
 Realize that the genetic code from the DNA reflects to the physical characteristics of
an organism through protein synthesis; and
 Translate gene code into amino acid sequence.

ELICIT (5 minutes) MATERIALS

Ask the students the following questions:
 What is DNA? Why is it considered as the
blueprint of the body?
 What is DNA replication? Why does our
body has to replicate the DNA?
ENGAGE (5 minutes)
Teacher will flash an image of an RNA strand
then ask the following questions:
 Do you recognize what is in the screen?
 Why is it only single strand? What do you
think is the purpose of the RNA in our
body?
In today’s lesson we will discuss how the genetic
code in our DNA is used by our body using RNAs.

EXPLORE (15 minutes)

Pre-activity
Distribution of activity sheets.
Giving instructions on how to do the activity.
Ask the students if they have any questions
before proceeding with the activity proper.

EXPLAIN (15 minutes)
Post-Activity
Guide Questions:
PPT Presentation
1. How did your organism come out? Explain
your answer.
2. If you had different set of DNA codes,
would your fictitious organism be the same?
3. How does the genetic code of an
organism affect the proteins synthesized by the
body?
4. What is the importance of protein
synthesis in our body?
ELABORATE (10 minutes)
Discussion on protein synthesis. PPT Presentation
EVALUATE (10 minutes)
Short Quiz
1. Where does transcription take place in ¼ sheet of paper
eukaryotes? pen
2. Where does translation take place?
3. Which type of RNA contains the codons?
4. Which type of RNA contains the
anticodons?
5. Which type of RNA makes up the
ribosome along with proteins?
If the DNA has a triplet code of CAG in one
strand (the strand used as a template
for transcription),
6. What is the complementary sequence on
the other DNA strand?
7. What is the complementary sequence in
the mRNA?
8. What is this sequence called?
9. True or False. Introns in mRNA bind to
tRNA at the ribosome
10. True or False. tRNAs can be thought of as
the link between amino acids and codons
in the mRNA.

to diseases and disorders that could be fatal to
an organism. To learn more about mutation, let
