NURSING UPDATE
Feed-forward Control Nursing Model in Expectant Treatment of Placenta Previa (2020)
Summary: We studied the possible advantages of feed-forward control nursing model in the
treatment of placenta previa. We enrolled 60 pregnant women who were receiving treatment for
expectant placenta previa and randomly divided them into the control group and the observation
group with 30 cases in each group. In the control group, we offered specialist nursing which
included examination, body positioning, vaginal bleeding record, psychological consultation and
medication observation. Feed-forward control nursing was applied in the observation group
which included establishing feed-forward control nursing improvement team. The observation
group got significantly higher success rate and lower complication rate compared with control
group. Gestational age and fetal weights improved apparently in the observation group. When we
compared the amount of postpartum bleeding and pregnancy bleeding in two groups we did not
find any statistically significant difference. Patients’ satisfaction rate toward our nursing services
was much higher in the observation group and the rate of nursing errors was significantly lower
in this group. All differences were statistically significant. Application of feed-forward control
nursing model in the expectant treatment of placenta previa can improve treatment success rate,
decrease complications and upgrade nursing quality.

Reaction:
This article shows an advantage of using a feed-forward control nursing model in managing
placenta previa cases. Feed-forward control nursing is used by conducting quality control of
nursing defects and putting forward ideas for improvements and verifying improvement
outcomes. This update is very relevant for me knowing that we had our DR duty for this week
and handled several cases. This also provides awareness when it comes to having patients with
complications during their delivery process, which is why we student nurses must be alert and
always have a presence of mind when it comes to handling our patients. Placenta previa is the
most common cause of painless bleeding in the third trimester of pregnancy which means that
conditions like this happen to future mothers. For me, this model is beneficial in placenta previa
cases knowing that it improves the quality care the nurse is giving to her patient, the success rate
of the treatment given and also decreases further complications such as continuous bleeding,
preterm birth, placenta accreta, and placental separation. With the advance treatment that is being
implemented in this case, it makes a huge difference when compared to the usual interventions
because nurses at this time use scientific and cautious nursing techniques in order to enhance the
quality care they are providing to the client and also to make an advancement with regards to the
treatment procedures when handling a patient with a case of placenta previa. This article can also
be in use for future research with regards to this specific abnormality present during pregnancy.
It made me provide my own conclusion that feed-forward control can eliminate various
insecurity factors exist in nursing process and control them prior to the implementation of
nursing measures, manipulation of nursing technique and the next nursing process, and to
achieve our goals on nursing safety while handling a case of placenta previa in the future.
