Paolo Guerrero Gonzales began his soccer career in the youth divisions of Club Alianza Lima, a club

he joined in 1991 at the age of seven, which made it possible for him to spend his entire formative
years in the youth divisions of the blue-and-white club.

When he was just eight years old, Paolo Guerrero started playing for one of the most established
clubs in his country, Alianza de Lima. Historical players such as Hugo Sotil or more recent ones like
Claudio Pizarro or Jefferson Farfán have played for El Equipo del Pueblo, but not Guerrero, who
was scouted by FC Bayern München scouts when he was still a teenager.

When Peru played its last World Cup, Paolo Guerrero had not yet been born. It was 1982, the
World Cup was being held in Spain and Peru finished last in its group with one defeat and two
draws.

Without knowing it, Guerrero was somehow present in that tournament. His uncle, José Gonzales
Ganoza, was the third goalkeeper of that mythical national team. Family ties also connected him
with Héctor Chumpitaz, remembered captain of the Peruvian national team, because he was his
mother's cousin. He had not yet arrived in the world and soccer was already part of Paolo
Guerrero's life.

Sometime later in 2004 he arrived to the Peruvian national team as a striker and captain of the
Peruvian soccer team and over the years he became a top scorer of the team.

After signing for Flamenco in 2015, Guerrero was one of the 59 players nominated as a candidate
for the Ballon d'Or. In 2017 he became the highest paid footballer in South America, won the
Campeonato Carioca, where he was recognized as best player and top scorer, being included in
the ideal team.

At the end of the year, he was again chosen as the second best footballer in South America and
being included in the Ideal Team of America. In 2018, he won the Taça Guanabara tournament and
would end his stay at the club within the top 10 of top foreign scorers.
