Is taking a shower at night dangerous?

Showering at night is always a dilemma for those of you who work outside until late
at night. Because of various activities, many people are still doing activities until the evening
so they only have time to take a shower before they fall asleep. Shower at night would have
provided freshness. Especially after a long day and make your body sweat. As Salina (2011)
said, “Taking shower at night is considered to be a fun activity which gives an individual an
opportunity to rejuvenate and energize himself”. Even though it will make the body feel clean
and comfortable, the habit of taking a shower at night can actually have a detrimental effect
on the health of the human body.

One of the negative impacts of a night bath on human health is disturbance of the
body's metabolic processes. Paranadipa (2017) stated that our body temperature increases as
we go about our day, when exposed to colder water when bathing at night, it will shock our
body’s metabolism. Drastic changes in body temperature cause some body functions to be
disturbed, especially with metabolic processes in the body. This happens because the body is
trying to balance the body temperature with the outside temperature which is trying to burn
more calories.

The second detrimental from a night shower is rheumatism. The habit of showering at night is
not recommended, because it can cause the joint capsule will shrink every time the body
poured with cold water or when the temperature is cold. So that will cause pain in the joints
that have been attacked by Rheumatism. Although there is no empirical evidence to support
this statement (Ginting, 2021). But, If you have a rheumatic ailment, you should avoid
showering at night. Alternatively, if required, use warm water to prevent it from happening
again (Mulyana, 2021).

In conclusion, a night shower is not recommended because it can cause various detrimental
effect on the health of the human body. But if you are forced to take a night bath, make sure
the water temperature is not too far from body temperature (Salina, 2011). That way, the
body can adjust body temperature normally without any side effects on the body.
