The Indonesian National Standard (SNI) 2052:2017 Steel bars for concrete reinforcement is
a revised edition of SNI 2052:2014 Steel bars for concrete reinforcement and SNI 8307:2016
Standard specification for deformed and plain carbon steel bars for concrete reinforcement
(ASTM A 615/A 615M-14, IDT).
This SNI has been prepared by Technical Committee 77-01 Metals, Steels and Steel
Products and has been discussed in consensus meeting in Jakarta on 15 March 2017. The
meeting was attended by relevant stakeholders, namely the representatives from
government, producers, consumers, associations, experts, test laboratories, universities and
other related institutions.
This Standard has been prepared in accordance with JIS and ASTM.
This SNI has passed an opinion poll conducted on 2 June 2017 until 2 August 2017.
Attention is drawn to the possibility that some parts of this Standard may conflict with patent
rights. The National Standardization Agency of Indonesia shall not be responsible for
identifying any or all of such patent rights.

7.4.3 Test pieces for mechanical properties shall be as specified in each standard for each
type of test, and shall have a maximum length of 1.5 meter.
8 Test methods
8.1 Appearance
The appearance shall be inspected visually by the naked eye and shall conform to the
requirements specified in 6.1.
8.2.1.1 The average diameter of plain steel bar shall be determined from measurements at
three different points on the same test piece.
8.2.1.2 The maximum permissible out-of-roundness shall be determined from the difference
between the maximum and the minimum diameter of the same cross-section.
For the deformed steel bars, the measurement parameters shall include rib spacing, rib
height, width of longitudinal ribs (gap), transverse-rib inclination, and mass of the bars.
The average spacing of ribs shall be determined by measuring the length of a minimum of
10 consecutive spaces and dividing that length by the number of spaces included in the
measurement.
The average height of ribs shall be determined from measurements made on three typical
ribs.
The average width of longitudinal ribs (gap) shall be determined from measurements at three
different points on each side of the bar.
8.2.2.4 Transverse-rib inclination
The transverse-rib inclination shall be determined by measuring the angle between the axis
of the transverse rib and the longitudinal axis of the bar on a figure of surface of a deformed
steel bar. The figure may be obtained, for example, by rolling a deformed steel bar on a
sheet of oil clay or paper.
8.2.2.5 Mass
The actual mass of the bars shall be determined by weighing the bars.
8.3.1.1 The tensile test shall be carried out on straight bars. The diameter of the test piece
shall not be reduced by machining the surface. The tensile test piece shall be as shown in
Figure 3.
Remarks:
Nominal diameter Gauge length Parallel length
D Lo Lc
Diameter of the bars 200 mm Min. 225 mm
8.3.1.1 The bend test shall be carried out on straight bars. The diameter of the test piece
shall not be reduced by machining the surface. The length of the test piece shall not less
than 150 mm.
The tensile and bend tests shall be carried out once for each test piece.
8.3.3 Test methods
The tensile test shall be carried out in accordance with SNI 8389. For the determination of
the tensile properties, the nominal cross-sectional area of the bar shall be used.
The yield point or yield strength shall be determined by one of the following methods:
a. The yield point shall be determined by drop of the beam or halt in the gage of the
testing machine.
b. Where the steel tested does not have a well-defined yield point, the yield strength
shall be determined by the 0.2% offset method.
The bend test shall be carried out in accordance with SNI 0410.
9 Acceptance criteria
9.1 The lot shall be declared as having passed the test if the samples taken from the lot
meet the quality requirements specified in clause 5 and 10.1.
9.2 If the results of the test fail to meet one of the specified quality requirements, the lot may
be subjected to a retest with the number of samples twice as many samples as the previous
test for the same lot.
9.3 If the results of the retest meet the specified quality requirements, the lot shall be
declared as having passed the test. If the results of the retest fail to meet one of the
specified quality requirements, the lot shall be declared as not having passed the test.
10 Marking
10.1 Each bar shall be marked by letters in the form of raised mark that is introduced during
rolling, indicate the name of the manufacturer and the nominal diameter.
10.2 Each bar shall be marked on the cross-section of the edges with a color that is not
easily removed to identify the grade of steel in accordance with Table 7.
11 Packaging
11.1 Each package shall consist of bars with the same size, type and grade of steel.
11.2 Each package may be supplied straight or bent, and tied up tightly, neatly and securely.
