Discussion: What is thesis?

A master's thesis is also an academic work of writing, but it is written by students who
have completed a master's program. Students might use a thesis to demonstrate their knowledge
and skill in the subject they've been studying. The master's thesis and doctoral dissertation are
formally documented that detail the research of a graduate student. The thesis/dissertation topic
is chosen in consultation with the student's major adviser and must be accepted by the student's
Supervisory Committee. Even though the Academic Committee should provide suggestions on
format and substance, the thesis/dissertation has no set length. Master’s thesis should indicate the
student's ability to conduct independent research or study, as well as their ability to implement
the techniques used in their field of study. Doctoral dissertations should show technical expertise
in the student's specialty as well as extend or alter current knowledge.

An opening, literature review, methods, results, discussion, and bibliography/references

section are all included in a thesis. The structures of theses vary depending on the field of study,
such as arts, humanities, social science, health, medicine, technology, and so on.

Dissertations should either deal with fresh material, find new results, or make new
conclusions, or reinterpret previous material. The research presented in the thesis/dissertation is
anticipated to be publishable in acceptable peer-reviewed publications. Students are required to
complete the manuscript(s) before to or shortly after completing their graduate program.

There is usually a committee which supervises a student’s dissertation (in the US model)
wherein it is usually consists of supervisor or adviser, and two or more committee members
whom supervise the progress of dissertation and may also act as the examining committee at the
oral presentation of the thesis. But in our institution, it is quite different. The thesis adviser
differs from the committee who are responsible for oral presentation/defense. The committee
members are doctors on the field of the study being conducted.
