Portfolio/ePortfolio Task #3 – Reflection Paper

1. What are the cultural practices and beliefs in your family, community or province?

2. Do you observe them? Have they influenced your language, thoughts, emotions,
personalities, etc.? In what way?

3. How do you live or adapt to your everyday life in your present kind of culture?

There are different cultural practices and beliefs in my family, community, and or
province. Growing up with my lolo and lola, they taught me that before eating breakfast,
lunch, and dinner, I should tell anyone when it is ready to eat. We are taught also that we
should eat together. Moreover during November, we visit our love ones in the cemetery who
passed away, my lola also cooks pilit during this time. To add more, we are also taught that
we should address and treat elders properly like addressing them nong, nang, tita, tito, lolo,
and lola. In our community we celebrate the feist of our patron saint during the 8 th of
December. We also celebrate sandiya festival, whereas kids, teenagers, and oldies can eat
watermelon all day. Ogtonganon artist can showcase their talent by sculpting the
watermelon. Lastly, is the Katagman Festival, this festival has various activities because of
the said golden mask found in the Batiano River, Oton. The activities included in this festival
are sand are competition, motorboat race, lampirong eating contest, pageant among the
Ogtonganon beauties or also known as the Hiyas of Katagman, and the most awaited of all
is the street dancing and stage performing of each tribe.

I do observe them always since some practices and beliefs in my family can be
observed daily in our house, and in our community since they are also celebrated annually in
order to be remembered by each generation. These cultural practices influenced my
language, in the way of speaking in various intonations like speaking to my peers, siblings,
and also to elders.

I do live or adapt to my daily life in my present kind of culture free from violence,
more on peace and courtesy. These cultures reminded me that I should learn how to pay
respect to these deserving elderly, since they are the one who are experienced than me.
To conclude everything that I have stated above, the main factor is my family’s
culture that molded me on what I am today. They taught me the good aspects of life that I
should always put in mind.
