Off Campus Meal Plan for SDSU Students

San Diego Student Dollars (SDSD) presents a flexible, prepaid meal card that works at over 35 close-to-campus locations. Unlike restrictive campus dining hall plans, students can use Student Dollars Meal Cards at off campus locations! Started in August 2010, the SDSD Meal Card is a dining option that helps promote a healthy lifestyle by catering to a student's busy schedule, unique diet, and tight budget. Currently there are a few hundred active card members and the business is growing. The SD Meal Card can be used at local dining spots, for dine-in, pick-up or delivery. SDSDs growing network of participating restaurants covers every type of cuisine, conveniently located in close proximity to San Diego State University campus, dormitories and off-campus student housing. Heres how it works for the student card holders: Parents and students go online and add money to the Meal Card based on their selected meal plan options. The meal plans are suggested dollar amounts based on how many meals a student decides to eat per day or week. San Diego Student Dollars offers a wide array of meal plan options that caters to students with appetites big and small. Parents are assured food money is spent as intended and dining dollars can be stretched as far as possible through exclusive card holder discounts. The SDSD Meal Card acts like a debit card to be used at participating restaurants and select pharmacies, grocery stores and book stores. After ordering at one of the participating merchants, the card holder presents their SDSD Meal Card as their form of payment. The cost of the meal is deducted from the current balance based on the menu price plus any additional member discounts. Currently, the following College Area businesses are involved with the program: 4.0 Deli, Bangkok Poco, Cheba Hut, California Kebab, Effins, Egyptian Tea Room, Hydration Station, The Living Room, San Diego Desserts, Top10 Pho, Milos Pizza, KB Books, and CVSECB. Participating merchants benefit from early adoption of student dining preferences with SDSDs successful recruitment of freshman/sophomore students, a higher per ticket amount and purchase of higher margin items (drinks, chips, etc.) and an increased campus/community presence through events and partnerships with student organizations. Steps to become a participating restaurant or merchant: 1. Meet with a San Diego Student Dollars representative by contacting Tyler or Anthony at: 619-677-2979 or contact@SDstudentdollars.com 2. Contract - 1 year commitment with a mutually agreed upon percentage of driven sales 3. Added to website, social media and flyers (distributed throughout SDSU dorms, apartments and campus) 4. Install small card reader in store to read meal card For more info visit: www.sdstudentdollars.com

Buddies Burgers at Aztec Square

Buddies Burgers is the newest business to open at the Aztec Square at 5854 Montezuma Rd. between Campanile Drive and Montezuma Rd. The burger joint had their grand opening on March 21st, 2011. This is the first location for business owners Mickey and Robert whom both attend San Diego State University. Mickeys parents are restaurateurs in Northern California owning and operating Italian eateries. Undoubtedly influenced by the success of his families business, Mickey sought to cater to the College crowd at San Diego State. As residents of the College Area, Mickey and Robert observed that to find a good burger a ten minute drive out of the District was required. So, the two collaborated to tap into an untouched market: Burgers! Buddies specializes in burgers galore but also create excellent sandwiches to include grilled chicken, pastrami, and Buddies Buster, which is a ground beef patty and pastrami topped with fries! The sporty casual restaurant offers an environment fit for SDSU. The colors of red, black and white honor Aztec pride while the walls mount televisions perfect to view college sports. In an effort to get the word out, Buddies Burgers has been passing out fliers around campus, and in the surrounding neighborhoods. They hope to have more locations in the near future. The Hidden Island Salon & Spa

Owner, Alli O., debuted the Hidden Island Salon & Spa in March 2011. The business is located at the Plaza Apartment Building at 6150 El Cajon Blvd. Ste. F. Alli voiced that it has been her dream to bring beauty and relaxation to everyone's lives! Personally, Alli is a licensed esthetician specializing in eyelash extensions and tanning. There are also four stylists and two skin care specialists on staff. Alli opened a salon and spa because she wanted a venue filled with special people who could bring something new and different to every clients needs . The Salon and Spa offers full service amenities including facials, waxing, eyelash extensions, make-up, spray tanning, hair cut and color. Alli chose to open the Hidden Island in the College Area in an effort to provide students and neighbors with discount salon and spa services. The landlord of the Plaza Apartments recently made renovations to the building. The property owner improvement the storefront of the building in 2010, enhancing the faade with fresh new colors. In an effort to accommodate the needs of a salon and spa the landlord also made drastic interior improvements. The rental was originally one large floor plan with no walls or rooms. The rental now has two rooms and the once white walls are now a tranquil turquoise. Alli has decorated each rooms with pictures of islands from around the world transporting clients on a vacation retreat. It seems that paradise awaits at the Hidden Island Open: Tues-Sat, 10am-6pm. Senator Kehoe Names Moxie Theater Co-Founder 'Small Business Owner of the Year'
Senator Christine Kehoe honored theatre leader Delicia Turner Sonnenberg today as the 39th Senate Districts Small Business Owner of the Year. Sonnenberg co-founded the non-profit Moxie Theatre, located in the College Area of San Diego, which seeks to create more diverse and honest depictions of female characters for the stage. By producing smart performances that defy stereotype, Moxie Theatre has quickly become a force in the San Diego arts community, and Delicia Turner Sonnenberg as Artistic Director has played an enormous part in that evolution, said Kehoe.
