Buhay sa Pandemya ( Life in Pandemic)

COVID 19 is the main reason we are locked down in our houses for months
and made our minds go crazy. As a student before pandemic, we all thought
that the suspended class will be our bonds with our friends, not until the
government announced that there will be a Enhanced Community Quarantine
(ECQ). COVID 19 was first identified on December 2019 at Wuhan, China.
Declared a Public Health Emergency of International Concern by the World
Health Organization (WHO) on January 30, 2020 and announced as
pandemic on March 11, 2020. This virus were originated by eating bats and
transmitted by people through direct, indirect and close contact.
It became a problem to all of us, especially me as a student who socializes
more with people. The problems with politics at that time was they were aware
that their was an outbreak happened in the China and they didn’t take actions
immediately. They just told that sanitize and wearing masks is the key to
prevent it but they let people from other countries into the country and it was
transmitted from the visitor to one another until the government declared that
Philippines is on a nationwide lockdown. They initiated protocols and stuff that
prevent the people to go outside and do what we used to do in our daily lives.
The first months of the lockdown was for the government to flatten the curve
immediately. But some of our fellowmen were just too hard-headed that we
are still on a pandemic as of today. I believed that the government do all they
can to stop this virus, its just that the people is the problem. In our subdivision,
our Barangay officials didn’t leave us and instead helped and took care of us
a midst the pandemic. We would just place a chair in front of our house and a
truck will come in our street, filled with foods that will last us for lockdown. We
received a sack of rice, canned foods, ready to cook noodles, money(ayuda)
and some vegetables for our meals. We even received a two(2) tray of balut.
Even in vaccines, they provided for all of us. Our neighborhood prioritizes
elderly and children who needs to get it immediately due to the fact they are
the most prone to this kind of virus. Even with vaccines, there are still people
who don’t follow the rules that we are given due to the situation that occurs.
Some don’t wear their face mask and face shield. If they go to a public place
to buy food or to get something, they don’t sanitize when they get home. It’s
not the virus that is the problem but it’s the people that don’t want to caught it
but they’re not preventing it. This virus caught because of a person eating a
bat. I noticed problems with people that follows and the officials who punishes
the one that don’t follows. For example, a reporter, Howie Severino, rode a
bike and he got tired, due to the thirst, he slid down his mask down to his neck
to drink water, few moments and he was arrested for just taking off his mask
for a drink and can quickly put it back after. I may not prove this but I heard
stories from my grandmother, she spends her time in Quezon City when
lockdown occurs. She said that in their neighborhood, the officials are putting
their money on their pockets. It feels so bad because in the midst of the
pandemic, people keep still thinking like it’s survival of the fittest. They don’t
help each other and just take what they can take.
I abide by the rules, I didn’t go out until it was clear and it was announced that
teenagers like myself our allowed to go out. I brought masks, face shield and
alcohol to sanitize myself every time. I ought to tell my friends to follow rules,
if it is not allowed in their subdivision, they need to comply. Although, I’m not a
fan of being a social media person and just communicating online, I don’t
have any choice but to do it since we can’t go outside for hours. It was kinda
fun not going out. I got to know myself and my parents. I learn some things I
didn’t learn before. I am confident that I’d been a different person since. I
always tell everyone that if it’s not important, don’t go outside. I always tell
them the saying that I saw. “If you’re not part of the solution, you are part of
the problem.”. Recommending spiritual habits and exercises in daily lives so
the “bored” feeling will go away. It’s hard to stay positive this days, just by
watching the news, scrolling to your news feed and reading news how the
problems are getting worse, it feels scary just by thinking about it. I always
check on my friends, giving positive vibes so that they won’t feel anything
about this craziness. Anxieties all the time because of the thought that they
might caught the virus. Always checks up with friends dealing with their
sadness or problems before it ends up in depression. I always encourage
them to play online games, watch movies together and listens to music as it
calms me down every time. That how I applied ethics during those situations.
It never bothered me to help them in this time because it is what I am since
then. Despite the problems, I think of solutions for everybody to use. In this
cruel world, we need each other to make ourselves strong and fighting in this
pandemic.
