CHAPTER I
THE PROBLEM AND ITS BACKGROUND
Introduction
in this generation of technology advancement, programming become more relevant,
programming is always playing a certain role in the development of our technology process,
Many software has been published and evolve since the programming language was started,
Programming enlarge or build up an advancement example of long distance communication,
transportation and a high range of everyday stuffs such an smartphone from which we benefit
most.
In our country, programming is always relevant, Lot of people are aspiring to become a one of
known developers, The cover of technological breakthrough from overseas was adopted and to
be not left in economic process, There is hindrance from learning programming to its have
potential for the people that no have compatible device to use in programming classes, Without
laptop or any desktop is hard and some of people will not be able to learn.
The researchers, conducted the study "Difficulties of learning programming without computer
or mobile phone among the all Grade 12 ICT Students. because some of grade 12 ICT students in
ICT strand don’t have any gadget will be necessary use for their programming class, The main
purpose of the study is to determine the factors and their reason of experiencing the difficulties
of haven’t mobile phone or computer and to find out the different strategy for writing and
completing the whole program in programming class of the Grade ICT Students at Arellano
University Bonifacio Campus.
Background of the Study
The researchers conducted this study because they want to know how hard to learn
programming if they don't have a computer or smartphone as a learning tool. The researchers
also want to know why is it so hard to learn, given the fact that you need learning tools to
understand what the teacher are saying in your programming class.
The objective of this research is to know how can Grade 12 ICT students of Arellano University
manage to understand programming if they do not have learning materials such as computers
or smartphones. Also, to know what is their struggle in this problem. The researchers conducted
the study at Arellano University, Bonifacio Campus Pasig City. The researchers used a
quantitative method to collect data by answering the questions of the respondents Bu creating a
survey.
The gathered information from the respondent was collected, and it could raise awareness to
help the student who is learning programming without a computer or smartphone as a learning
tool.
Settings of the Study
Figure 1 shows the School where the Researchers conducted the study. Which is at Arellano
University Bonifacio Campus. It was founded in 1946, Arellano has a total of eight campuses.
The Juan Sumulong Campus in Manila City which is the Main Campus of Arellano, Andres
Bonifacio Campus in Pasig City, Plaridel Campus in Mandaluyong City, Jose Abad Santos in Pasay
City, Apolinario Mabini Campus in Pasay City, Elisa Esguerra Campus in Malabon City, Jose Rial
Campus in Malabon City and the School of Law at Apolinario Mabini Campus, Arellano University
in Menlo, Pasay City. Arellano University was founded in the year 1938 by Florentino Cayco Sr.

Theoretical Framework
Programming courses among the important components of the curriculum to be studied, not
only in the field of Information Technology but also required in most of the field. Because every
students is different and unique in their own ways. This means that they learn at different speed
and in different ways, and also they have different types and level of motivation. Courses on
programming develop a reputation for being challenging. This perspective is conveyed to the
new pupils by their predecessors anf is emphasized in the telling [Jenkins,2002]. This might
make it acceptable and anticipated that students will struggle during the learning process and
find it difficult to learn computer programming. While some people will fail or give up before
succeeding or failing, and others will achieve success. Another theory according to [Teague and
Roe, 2008], programming is frequently viewed as solitary activity that is carried out in hostile
setting. This type of perception of a programmer and of a programming does not inspire
students to study it in order to become programmers or even consider it as a career. Therefore,
this study is expected to generate information on the teachers perception and challenging of
integrating OCT Tools in the teaching and learning process. With changes in modern
technologies, learners must need to be equipped with updated knowledge that will help them
adapt to the changing world. Such knowledge leads to better communication.
Conceptual Framework

In this part of the research, researchers make a table it shows how the input, process, and output work
directly for the ICT students who experienced difficulties in learning programming without a computer
or mobile phone. As seen in the table the first one is Input which researchers get some information
about the students such as their names, gender, and learning material tools for learning programming in
the second one researchers did gather data through personal interviews and via quantitative data
analysis and the last part is output which researchers have their data about factors behind the
difficulties of learning programming without a computer or mobile phone among the Grade 12 ICT
Students.

Statement of the Problem

This study was conducted to determine the difficulties of learning programming without a computer or
mobile phone among the grade 12 ICT student
Specifically, the study will attempt to answer the following question:

1. Profile of the Students

a. Name
b. Gender

2. learning materials for learning programming

a. Computer
b. Cellphone
c. Laptop
d. none of the above

3. Difficulties of learning programming

a. Not enough knowledge
b. Don't have learning materials such as Computer, Cellphone, or Laptop

4.Alternative ways to learn programming

a.  By Using Cellphone, Computer, or Laptop
b. By borrowing

Hypothesis

It may be difficult for ICT students to find a successful solution if they do not have access to a computer.
90% of developers turn to Google when they get stuck. Although you can learn concepts and grammar
without a phone or computer, you will require one to build things. Even in the early stages of education,
programming was a difficult subject to learn and master. It has been a global issue that has gotten worse
at the local level. However, a plethora of educational tools are available to supplement computer
programming instruction and learning. The problem persists to this day. Even at the beginning of
computer introduction courses, there was a high failure rate.

Assumption

This study believes in the assumption that the difficulties of learning programming without
the use of smartphones or computers is not possible, you need a computer or smartphone
to learn to program.

Significance of the Study

This study aims to know the Problem of the students in ICT and By this research, will benefit the
following:

Students- Through this Study, Students can understand that even though there are problems that they
will encounter if they don't have a smartphone or computer there will be a solution. it also gives
students motivation to complete their tasks.

Parents- The study would help the parents to understand the struggle of their students in their
programming class. And Parents can give Their sons what they need in programming class.

Teachers- As with parents This will help the teacher to consider their students who don't have
smartphones or computers.

School Administrator- This study can help by providing a solution to the struggle of the students

Government- As with school administrator, this can give an idea to solve the problem of the student

Scope and Delimitation

The study will determine the difficulties of  Grade 12 ICT students at Arellano University in learning
programming without the use of a smartphone or computers as learning material. Grade 12 ICT students
are the respondent of this study. The researcher will have 100 respondents to know how can they
manage to learn programming without the use of a smartphone or computer as a learning materials.
