Walk Your Talk

The use of illegal drugs is a prominent problem in our country. It is the hardest trouble of our
government and the worst problem of our society. “Say No to Drugs” a very known quotation among Filipinos,
it is right and just for us to avoid drugs because it can destroy your own life aside from that it can destroy the
life of others and also the community where you belong to.
When Rodrigo Duterte campaigned for president, he claimed that drug dealing and drug addiction were
major obstacles to the Philippines’ economic and social progress. He promised a large-scale restriction on
dealers and addicts, similar to the restriction that he engaged in when he was mayor of Davao City. When
Duterte became president in June 2016, he encouraged the public to “go ahead and kill” drug addicts. His
rhetoric has been widely understood as an endorsement of extrajudicial killings, as it has created conditions for
people to feel that it’s appropriate to kill drug users and dealers.
The war on drugs of Duterte’s Administration was committing a Human Rights violation. Just because
on the issue on Extra-Judicial Killings that the Police and PDEA are committing crimes and violating the
Human Rights due to obeying the President’s order to kill the drug related persons. Also, the campaign against
war on drugs in the Philippines really scare a lot of citizens even teens at very young age.
It does mean that wars on drugs of Duterte’s Administration are bad. It really needs a “walk your talk”
ordered by Duterte to accomplish the mission to kill the drug addicts who wants to fight the Police during Oplan
Tokhang. The objective of our government is to have a peacefully country to live in and to stop individuals who
are using illegal drugs is very nice but the implementation is a big “no, no” for all citizens because the action of
the different sectors is not aligned with the real objectives of the government. Duterte’s “war on drugs” has
been controversial from the very beginning, since it apparently involved the extrajudicial killing of suspected
drug peddlers and users. The anti-drug operation has already killed 7,000 persons, but some human rights
groups think that the number of drug-related killings could reach 12,000 if we are going to include the
unreported cases.
Although there so many against of the Duterte’s campaign on war on drugs, the most of us Filipinos are
still strong to support the campaign because it will give a big change to our country. It lessens the drug related
crimes. The big real evidence is that there are thousands of surrenders of drug addicts due because of the
campaign of Duterte. Government should improve the forces of Police during campaign to easily resolve the
drug addiction and help the surrenders to start a new life. Duterte should maintain this campaign on war on
drugs to totally eliminate the usage of illegal drugs.
For us to achieve the goal of our nation to be a drug- free country, all of us should fight against it, these
should be starts in our homes. War on drugs should not only involve the government and local authorities, but
also friends and family of drug users or sellers. Lessen drug-related crimes, when drug addicts will not have
access to illegal substances, they will not experience highs or hallucinations that will drive them to commit
crimes. They would not need to steal either so they can buy drugs. Put simply, without the pushers there will be
little no users.
