The Origin of Sepak Takraw

Have you ever played a popular Malaysian sport? If not, let us discuss it.
Sepak Takraw originated in Malaysia approximately 500 years ago.
It was mostly played by the royal court in the 15th century.
Around the 16th century, the game spread to Indonesia, where it was known as Sepak Raga.
This is my experience with the game. Playing sepak takraw is a lot of fun for me. As a result of this game,
I made a lot of new friends.

Sepak Takraw is a foot volleyball game in which players only use their feet, knees, chest, and heads to
touch and handle the ball.
The game's rules and regulations are very similar to those of volleyball.
The game is played with a rattan or synthetic ball and is very popular throughout Southeast Asia.
Sepak takraw has been included in Asian games since 1990.
Similar to volleyball, two teams of players attempt to control the ball by touching it only with their feet,
chest, knee, or head, and then attempt to kick the ball past the net to the opposing side.

In Regu, each team has three players including two substitute players. On the court, the team comprises
of a Striker, a Server, and a Feeder. Each player possesses different set of skills and tactics.
The server's or Tekong's main responsibility is to serve the ball. The server usually hits the ball quickly
across the net, making it difficult for the opposing players to defend.
The striker or killer is in charge of executing high-speed volleys into the opposing side. When the striker
is not in possession of the ball, he will usually try to block high kicks from the opposing side.
The Feeder is the third type of player, and he or she has the most control over the ball during the game.
He is the team's most agile and responsive player. The feeder's primary responsibility is to position the
ball so that the striker can kick it hard past the goal. He also has the ability to hit the ball across the net.

Did you realize that? SEPAK is a Malay word for "kick", and takraw is Thai word for "WOVEN RATTAN
BALL."

It’s been an honor to be among such accomplished individuals and to be able to present my perspective
before you all, thank you and good day.
