The teacher will then explain that when visiting a foreign country, it is very important to
know that country’s culture since every country has its own distinct characteristics and
knowing about them will help you adapt and cope with their culture.
And one way of learning about their culture is through their MUSIC.
The teacher will discuss to the students the difference between Vocal & Instrumental
Music.
Are you ready to learn Southeast Asian culture through music? Let’s start!
Activity GROUP ACTIVITY
Time Frame: 1. The class will be divided into 8 groups and each group will represent the
15mins. countries of Southeast Asia (Cambodia, Indonesia, Myanmar, Malaysia,
Thailand, Laos, Vietnam, Singapore).
The teacher will give each group an article (based on the book) about the country they
represent and will be given 2 minutes to read and analyze the readings. Please refer to
page 9-32.
Analysis After the time allotted, each group will present to the class at least 5 facts about the
Time Frame: country they represented (facts should be based on the article given) focusing more on
15mins. the musical culture of the country they are assigned. Guide question will be as follows:
1. How can you describe the music of the country?
2. What are its distinct characteristics?
3. What else is unique about that country?
Each group will be given 2 minutes to present.
Abstraction
After the group presentation, the teacher will give a brief discussion about the distinct

1. Describe how the musicians play their instrument.
2. How many instrument players were needed?
3. Are their instruments made of wood or metal?

Assignment Research for the lyrics of Burung Kakatua or Rasa Sayang and learn how to sing it.

Concluding Activity End the class with the quote:
