❑identify and illustrate the different kinds of

angle pairs:
➢supplementary angles
➢complementary angles
➢congruent angles
➢adjacent angles
➢linear pair
➢vertical angles
Complete the table. Name the angle, kind of angle and
angle measurement.

Greater than 0°
∠𝐃𝐁𝐂 or ∠𝐂𝐁𝐃 Acute angle but less than 90°

∠𝐂𝐁𝐀 or ∠𝐀𝐁𝐂 Right angle Exactly 90°

The relationship that exist between any two angles can be made as the
basis in classifying angles. There are different kinds of angles in this
manner, and they are called angle pairs.
➢ are two angles with common vertex, a common side, but no
common interior points
➢ are two angles with common vertex, a common side, but no
common interior points
A D E H

common side common side no common vertex

no common
no common side side

B C F G
common vertex common vertex

K
common side

common interior
points
H I J
common vertex

These are adjacent angles. These are NOT adjacent angles.

➢ two angles are called complementary if their sum is 90°

𝐦∠𝐀𝐃𝐁 + 𝐦∠𝐁𝐃𝐂 = 𝟗𝟎°

𝟒𝟓° + 𝟒𝟓° = 𝟗𝟎°

𝐦∠𝐉𝐌𝐊 + 𝐦∠𝐊𝐌𝐋 = 𝟗𝟎° 60°

𝟔𝟎° + 𝟑𝟎° = 𝟗𝟎° ∠A and ∠B & ∠P and ∠Q are
complementary but not adjacent
∠ADB & ∠BDC and ∠JMK & ∠KML are angles.
complementary and adjacent angles.
➢ two angles are called supplementary if their sum is 180°

𝐦∠𝐏𝐐𝐒 + 𝐦∠𝐒𝐐𝐑 = 𝟏𝟖𝟎° 𝐦∠𝐓𝐔𝐖 + 𝐦∠𝐖𝐔𝐕 = 𝟏𝟖𝟎°

𝟏𝟑𝟎° + 𝟓𝟎° = 𝟏𝟖𝟎° 𝟓𝟗° + 𝟏𝟐𝟏° = 𝟏𝟖𝟎°

∠PQS & ∠SQR and ∠TUW & ∠WUV are supplementary and adjacent angles.

𝐦∠𝐀 + 𝐦∠𝐁 = 𝟏𝟖𝟎°

𝟏𝟏𝟎° + 𝟕𝟎° = 𝟏𝟖𝟎°

∠A and ∠B are supplementary but not adjacent angles.

➢ two angles form a linear pair when they are adjacent and supplementary

m∠PQR + m∠SQR = 180° m∠TUW + m∠WUV = 180°

130° + 50° = 180° 59° + 121° = 180°

These are linear pairs. 𝐦∠𝐀𝐁𝐃 + 𝐦∠𝐃𝐁𝐂 = 𝟏𝟖𝟎°

𝟗𝟎° + 𝟗𝟎° = 𝟏𝟖𝟎°

∠ABC and ∠PQR are supplementary angles

but not a linear pair.
➢ two angles are congruent if their measure are equal

𝐦∠𝐖𝐗𝐙 = 𝟒𝟓° 𝐦∠𝐀𝐁𝐃 = 𝟗𝟎°

𝐦∠𝐙𝐗𝐘 = 𝟒𝟓° 𝐦∠𝐃𝐁𝐂 = 𝟗𝟎°

∠WXZ and ∠ZXY are congruent angles. ∠ABD and ∠DBC are congruent angles.

∠𝐖𝐗𝐙 ≅ ∠𝐙𝐗𝐘 ∠𝐀𝐁𝐃 ≅ ∠𝐃𝐁𝐂

𝒎∠𝑾𝑿𝒁 ≅ 𝒎∠𝒁𝑿𝒀 𝒎∠𝑨𝑩𝑫 ≅ 𝒎∠𝑫𝑩𝑪

∠G and ∠S are congruent angles. ∠R and ∠Q are congruent angles.

∠𝐒 ≅ ∠𝐆 ∠𝐑 ≅ ∠𝐐

𝒎∠𝑺 ≅ 𝒎∠𝑮 𝒎∠𝑹 ≅ 𝒎∠𝑸

➢ Vertical angles are formed when two straight lines intersect each other.
Their sides form two pairs of opposite rays and their angles are
nonadjacent.
∠1 and ∠3 are vertical angles.
𝟏𝟏𝟓°
∠2 and ∠4 are vertical angles.

𝟔𝟓° 𝟔𝟓° If m∠1 = 115°, then m∠3 = 𝟏𝟏𝟓°

𝐦∠𝟏 + 𝐦∠𝟐 = 𝟏𝟖𝟎°

𝟏𝟏𝟓°
𝟏𝟏𝟓° + 𝐦∠𝟐 = 𝟏𝟖𝟎°
If m∠1 = 115°, then m∠2 = 𝟔𝟓°
𝐦∠𝟐 = 𝟏𝟖𝟎° − 𝟏𝟏𝟓°
∠1 and ∠2, ∠2 and ∠3, ∠3 and ∠4, and 𝐦∠𝟐 = 𝟔𝟓°
∠4 and ∠1 are supplementary angles.
