Introduction
• First day of the first month, of the
second year (2, 17)
• 14th day of the first month – the Exodus
(12:6)
• 3 months later, they arrived at Mt. Saini
• 80 days on the mountain (40+40)
• 6 ½ to build the tabernacle (mid-
September to late March)
The Erection of the
Tabernacle
• The physical
arrangement (1-8)
• The consecration (9-
11)
• The priesthood (12-
15)
The Tent of Meeting

• 33:7-11
• Moses is in the tent, God at the entrance
• Now its the Tabernacle
• God is inside now
• Now Moses cannot enter (35)
• Shield (3, 21 twice) (holiness)

• The Tabernacle and everything in it (9)


• Consecrate = set apart (holiness)
• Setting aside for holy use
• otherness or uncommon
The Priesthood

• Moses is acting as priest


• Aaron is the first high priest
• And his sons
• Dressing and anointing
Moses’ Obedience

• 7x = Moses did everything just “as the


LORD commanded him” (16, 19, 21, 23, 25,
27, 29) (#8 - 32)
• Obedience was
paramount
Moses’ Obedience

• Careful response to God’s instructions


• The tablets are placed in the ark (20)
• Moses burned incense (27)
• Moses offered burnt offerings (29)
God Dwells (tabernacles)

• God promised back in 29:45 that He


would dwell with His people
• Before the erection of the tabernacle,
the cloud only came on occasion (ch. 33)
• Moses was not allowed in (35)
• The cloud/pillar guided the Israelites
Observations
• The sovereign God of heaven had taken
a people in slavery, delivered them in
power, made a covenant with them, and
established them into a theocracy, a
nation under God on earth.
• The sign of the covenant was the
Sabbath, and its regulations
(stipulations) were the Law which
included the Ten Commandments and
various civil and ceremonial ordinances.
Observations

• The book ends on a strong positive


note: God was with the nation, and He
was guiding them on to the Promised
Land.
Observations

• God is the initiator in dwelling with His


people
• God is holy and sin is not allowed
• Obedience bring blessing
