 GENERAL

 Zamil shall follow the approved bolt tightening procedure at the site.

 The minimum size of ASTM A325 N bolts shall be 3/4-inch (20 mm) in diameter and a minimum of two bolts shall
require per connection.

 Pre-installation procedure verification was performed for the method selected for bolt tightening corresponding to the
applicable SATR-M-2004, Pre-Installation Procedure - Verification Testing of Calibration Wrench Method (ASTM
A325 or ASTM A490 Bolts)

 Faying surfaces and surfaces adjacent to the bolt head and nut for snug-tightened or pre-tensioned joints shall be free of
dirt and other foreign material. These joints may be coated or uncoated.  (AISC Specification for Structural Joints Using
ASTM A325 or A490 Bolts, Para. 3.2.1 & PIP STS05130, Para. 6.5.1).

 All tools used for bolt torquing shall have a valid calibration certificate from an approved Third Party Agency.

 The use of an air compressor to operate an impact machine to the bolts.

 The electrical “Impact / pneumatic wrench shall be used for initial tightening of bolts and Inspection shall be as per bolt
tightening type either snug or torque wrench”
 SNUG TIGHTENING METHOD:

 All bolt holes shall be aligned to permit insertion of the bolts without ‘undue’ damage to the threads.

 ‘Undue’ damage is intended to mean damage that would be enough to complete the assembly to render the product unfit
for its intended use.
 Bolts shall be placed in all holes with washers positioned as required and nut
threaded.

 Tightening of a group of bolts is made progressively in systematic order starting

from the most rigid part of the point.

 After snug tightening, the nut and bolt shall be referenced and marked to establish their relative rotational position.

 TURN-OFF NUT METHOD:

 Bolts shall be placed in all holes with washers positioned as required and the nut threaded to complete the assembly.

 After assembly and bolt tightening crew tightened all the bolts to a snug tightened
condition, i.e., the tightness is partially attained with a few impacts of an impact
wrench or the full effort of a steelworker using a spud wrench to bring the
connected plies into firm contact.

 The nut and protruding end of the bolts is match marked after snug tightening is
performed.

 After all bolts are in a snug tight condition and match marked, the nut or bolt head
is rotated to the amount of turn specified in AISC specification for structural joints using ASTM A325/A490/ A307/
ASTM A193B7/ ASTM A320 L7 / ASTM A354 Bolts).

 Rotation of nut or head is applied to all fastener assemblies in the joint, progressing systematically from the most rigid
part of the joint in a manner that will minimize relaxation of previously pre-tensioned bolts. See the figures below.

 CALIBRATED WRENCH METHOD:

 The Installation Torque should be determined through the tables included below in this section.

 After determined pre-tension torque is applied to all bolts in the joint, progress with the final torque systematically from
the most rigid of the joint to the less one.

 The bolt tightening crew of the SUBCONTRACTOR shall color code, die punch or mark the ends of torqued bolts.

16.ERECTION SEQUENCE

13.1 GENERAL ERECTION SEQUENCE OF STEEL MEMBERS rectify the numbering

10

13.1.1 ERECTION OF COLUMNS rectify the numbering

Installation of steel columns is the predecessor of all activities of steel erection. It is necessary to ensure that a single
erected steel column does not topple before it can be tied down to form a stable module. Below are the typical procedures
for the erection of steel columns.

 Have the materials at the site for the particular bay to be erected.

 Ensure that all requirements (equipment, steel members, tools, fasteners, lifting hardware and documents) are ready
before commencing the work.

 Barricade the area to keep personnel and equipment does not involve in the erection activity out of the working area.
This will minimize casualty or damage once an accident occurs.

 Ensure that lifting of painted or galvanized structural members shall be performed with a nonabrasive choker.

 Clean anchor bolt and ensure that nut runs freely. Remove any undesired materials from the pocket for a shear key.

 Survey the actual elevation of leveling pad and set the required elevation indicated on the plan.

 Start with the braced bay if possible and erect the columns using appropriate size lifting equipment.

 Check plumpness using a spirit level. Adjust the steel wedge or leveling nut to attain the required vertical position.

 Check also the column position by aligning its centerline with the previously marked center on a concrete pedestal.

 After making the necessary adjustment tighten the nuts of anchors bolts and fix the guy ropes as per requested to make
the erected steel column stable.

 Release the load from the lifting equipment using an elevated working platform as access. It is required to wear
complete Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as a full-body harness, hard hats, high visibility vest, etc.

 An alternate method of releasing the load from the crane hook is by using man-basket, quick release shackles or use long
slings.

 Install the adjacent steel post adopting the procedure described above.

 Tie in the erected column or post with the horizontal members to make them more stable.

 Request for QA/QC inspection for alignment prior to bolt tightening.

 After the acceptance of alignment, proceed with bolt tightening.

13.1.2 ERECTION OF BEAMS & GIRDER rectify the numbering

After the installation of columns, proceed with the installation of beams/Girders to make the structure stable. The
following procedure should be observed when erecting the beams/girders:

 Lift member in horizontal and level position as possible to avoid unnecessary adjustment during bolting to erected
trusses.

 In some cases, where members are required to be installed slanting as in the case of vertical bracings, use an unequal
length of sling or provide a chain or lever block on one sling for angle adjustment.

 In either case, provide taglines for controlling the load.

 After lifting the beam in the required position, fix the said item on the girder or truss using fasteners specified on the
plans.

 Use MEWP or man basket as safe access to fix the horizontal members to the columns / adjacent girder and release the
load from the crane hook. Ensure that personnel wear the required PPE, especially the full-body harness hooked on the
platform during the process.

The access for decking will be by using stair scaffolding or cherry pickers”. At no point will anyone be permitted to
exit the basket of a cherry picker to gain access to decking.

safety line anchorages will be installed and tested from a MEWP, fixed to the structural steel, at 2.0m above head
height, at grid Xa, V and T, prior to the installation of the ceiling purlins below and in advance of the commencement
of the decking activity.
The following are the sequence of activities for the proper execution and completion of metal deck installation work:

 PRE-INSTALLATION CHECK

Check proper alignment of side girts and purlins prior to installation of metal deck. Such check should be conducted
at least one week prior to the planned installation schedule of metal deck in order to have ample time to rectify any
deficiency of steel erection works.

 CHECK INSTALLATION OF SIDE GIRTS AND PURLINS

 WEATHER CONDITIONS

Decking bundles should only be opened if all the sheets in the bundle can be fixed or left in a safe condition at the
end of the shift. Consideration must be given during periods of bad weather to any unfixed sheets as these must be
secured at the end of each day by using a temporary strap secured to the frame or decking.

 ACCESS TO DECKING

The decking installation should be planned to commence from the corner of the structure, so that the
number of leading edges are limited. The recommended means of access to and egress from the workface
should be either temporary scaffold stair or ladder tower for limited duration.

 OFFLOADING OF DELIVERIES

Off load the delivered metal deck materials from laydown as near as possible to the erection location. Clean the
metal deck members and remove any unwanted items before installation.

Wooden dunnage is required to protect and prevent damage to the coated surface during transport and offloading of
delivered metal deck at site.

Cleaning tools (brush and rugs) are used for removing dirt, mud, dust, etc., that cling to the painted surface of metal
deck materials. Such items should be removed while the metal deck materials are still at the ground level to avoid work
at height activities.

Rigging Hardware such as nylon slings, shackles…etc., are required to facilitate lifting and installation of metal deck
materials.

Nylon Ropes are used as tagline to control the movement of suspended load during installation of metal deck materials.
Installation Tools such as rubber mallet, power screwdriver and drill are required to facilitate alignment, tightening of
fasteners during installation of metal deck respectively.
Sling Softeners are required to protect slings from sharp edges of metal deck materials.

 INSTALLATION OF METAL DECK MATERIALS

Position crane or electric winch will lift metal deck materials. Once the metal deck material was set in position, fix it
with fasteners as detailed in the approved construction drawing. Provide taglines to the load to control its movement
during lifting. Also, provide softeners to protect sling from sharp edges of metal deck materials. Barricade work area
and provide appropriate signage to warn other personnel in the vicinity.

 LAYING DECKING SHEETS

Using the access provided, the installer should straddle the first bundle of decking to remove the banding. The first
decking sheet will then be pushed out onto the steelwork to be used as a working platform from which to lay the
remaining sheets in that bay. Decking sheets should then be lapped, lined up and fixed into place once the adjacent
bay has been laid and the troughs of the decking have been lined through. During installation, cumulative
measurements of across the bay width should be taken to ensure the effective product cover width is consistently
achieved. Minimum bearing is 50mm on to steel support beams.
Survey and Measuring Instrument are required for checking and properly setting the position of erected steel
members.

 CUTTING / NOTCHING

Decking sheets are typically delivered to site at the correct square cut length. Where decking ribs sit over beams that
are to receive welded shear studs, around columns and other protrusions, notching and/or cutting of the deck will be
required. This should be carried out by trained operatives using suitable disc cutters with appropriate blade.

 SIDE LAPS

At side laps, the deck sheets must be stitched together using self-tapping screws, installed with suitable screw guns,
at maximum 1.0m centers. In addition to stabilizing the joint, these helps minimize grout loss experienced during
concreting.

 SEALING AND FINISHING OFF TO AVOID GROUT LOSS

Deck sheets are designed to butt join with the ribs of the profile lined through to avoid gaps and minimize grout loss.
Metal deck is not intended to provide a watertight solution, therefore small quantities of grout and water loss are
inevitable. Gaps in excess of 5mm should be sealed using either tape or expanding foam. Generally, gaps less than
5mm are acceptable with no special provision as they are too small to allow aggregate to escape, although grout loss
will occur.

 EDGE TRIM

Generally supplied in 3.00m standard lengths, each length should be tethered during installation using the holes
provided. The edge trim must be fixed to the perimeter supports at maximum 750mm centers It should be every
300mm or as per the site condition. The edge trim should take the load of concrete. Misalignment should not happen
while casting the concrete with restraint straps installed to the top of the upstand leg/tick at centers as indicated in
the Edge Trim & Flashings section using self-tapping screws.

Shear stud welding is missing

 FORMING HOLES AND OPENINGS

Where trimming steels are provided, the decking sheets may be cut to suit the size of the opening and edge trim
installed. Where there is no supporting steelwork, the voids will have to be decked over. The opening should then be
formed by main contractor who will box out the opening prior to pouring the concrete.

 REMOVAL OF WASTE MATERIALS

At the end of each shift as a minimum and upon completion of the decking work, all surplus materials and debris
will be placed crane, then transported to the designated segregated site skips.

It is essential that the decking packs are loaded out in the position indicated on decking layout drawings to minimize the
manual handling risk!

 Fix all sheets before leaving area.

Unfixed decking sheets pose a danger to others on site, ensure that as areas are being laid that they are not left
unattended until fixed. At the end of each shift, any unfixed sheets in decking packs must be secured down.

 Ensure heavy loads are placed over supports.

Other trades must be made aware of the storage capacity of decking prior to concrete and the appropriate procedures
for locating heavy loads, e.g. reinforcement or mesh, on timbers laid above the structural support lines.

 Avoid cutting holes in the deck before concreting.

If additional holes are required to be cut into the decking before concreting, contact AIC for guidance.

 Follow concrete good practice.

Following concrete trades must be aware of best practice when pouring on upper floor decks, to ensure overloading is
avoided and any propping requirements are in place. Do not allow concrete to mound when placing.

 Check design implications before cutting any sheets to single span.

Where sheets have been designed and supplied as double-spanning, they must not be cut to single span without
checking the safe un-propped single span for the product involved. Cutting a sheet may introduce the need for propping!

 Exclusion from above or below decking.

No persons or equipment permitted onto or beneath the decking without permission until it has been formally handed
over as complete. Other works to be coordinated and phased accordingly, including completion of other steelworks.

14.1 GENERAL ERECTION SEQUENCE OF STEEL MEMBERS

5.
6.
7.
8.
13.1.1 ERECTION OF COLUMNS
Installation of steel columns is the predecessor of all activities of steel erection. It is necessary to ensure that a single erected steel
column does not topple before it can be tied down to form a stable module. Below are the typical procedures for the erection of steel
columns.
 Have the materials at the site for the particular bay to be erected.
 Ensure that all requirements (equipment, steel members, tools, fasteners, lifting hardware and documents) are ready before
commencing the work.
 Barricade the area to keep personnel and equipment does not involve in the erection activity out of the working area. This will
minimize casualty or damage once an accident occurs.
 Ensure that lifting of painted or galvanized structural members shall be performed with a non-abrasive choker.
 After making the necessary adjustment tighten the nuts of anchors bolts and fix the guy ropes as per requested to make the erected
steel column stable.
 Release the load from the lifting equipment using an elevated working platform as access. It is required to wear complete Personal
Protective Equipment (PPE) such as a full-body harness, hard hats, high visibility vest, etc.
 An alternate method of releasing the load from the crane hook is by using man-basket, quick release shackles or use long slings.
 Install the adjacent steel post adopting the procedure described above.
 Tie in the erected column or post with the horizontal members to make them more stable.
 Request for QA/QC inspection for alignment prior to bolt tightening.
 After the acceptance of alignment, proceed with bolt tightening.
