310-01 Study on different types of industrial stitch
and sample development
Experiment-1:
Study on different types of industrial stitch and
sample development.
1.1 OBJECTIVES
1.To know about the stitch forming devices.
2.To know about the different types of stitch.
3.To know about the figure of different stitch.
4.To make a report on the experimental work.

1.2 INTRODUCTION
Stitch is the fundamental element of sewing, which is done for joining
different parts of garments whether hand or machine. A stitch is one
kind of single turn or loop, creates by thread or yarn. When this loop or
loops of one or more thread joined with each other, either interlacing,
interloping, intralooping then it called stitch.
Different types of stitch are used for different joining in a garment. All
of these stitches are classified into 6 groups.

1.7 PROCEDURE
1.Stitch Class 100 (Single Thread Chain Stitch):
It is made by one or several needles where the thread intertwines with
itself, without the use of any bobbin. This type of stitch is characterized
by having a certain elasticity and easily unstitching.
Uses: Most widely used in blind sewing, stitching, button attachment,
button-holing, temporary position of clothing elements, etc.

2.Stitch class – 200 (Hand stitch):

Those stitches that are made with a single needle and a single thread.
Made by hand or with a sewing machine that imitates the stitch by
hand. This type of stitches have many different shapes and uses.
Uses: In the Ready-Made Garments (RMG) market, this stitches
category is very rare because they are very expensive to manufacture.
Such types of stitches are used to stitch expensive clothing, jackets and
sample garments.

3.Stitch class–300 (Lock stitch):

The 300 stitch class is made of two threads that intertwine with each
other, and by using a needle and a quill. Double stitching is the most
used for both domestic and industrial. The double stitching is
characterized by having low volume, it is resistant, but with poor
elasticity, and it doesn’t unstitch easily.

Uses: Used extensively as the pocket, collar, cuff, face joining or any
type of topstitching in sewing and material attachment.
4.Stitch class–400(Multi-thread chain stitch):
Stitches in this class are made by one or more needles and two or more
threads. The threads of the second series are intertwined by dragging
those of the first series towards the reverse of the seam. They require at
least one needle and one anchor. This is the most used class after class
300.Multiple chain stitches have better elasticity and more volume than
stitches into class 300.

Uses: Used for joining heavy fabrics, side seam of trouser, etc purposes.

5.Stitch class–500 (Over-edge stitch):

This type of stitch is formed by one or several needles and two or more
threads interlaced at the edge of the fabric, creating an overcasting.
The edge of the fabric is trimmed by a blade. A needle and two anchors
are required to get this type of stitch. Some characteristics are low
volume, good polishing of the fabric edge, and good elasticity.
However, it is easily unstitched. It’s used on a large type of fabrics.
Uses: The type stitch is used in the edge finishing of knitted textiles,
where stitch extensible is important, as well as in sportswear.

6.Stitch class–600 (Covering chain stitch):

Class 600 is made of three groups of intertwining threads covering both
sides of the fabric.Stitches within this class have a high level of elasticity
and resistance. They provide a flat seam that allows two layers of fabric
to be joined together without overlapping. They also have a high
production performance, but they consume a lot of thread.
Uses: This form of the stitch is used for underwear stitching, splicing,
braiding, etc. It is also used to render cover, ornamental stitch and
topstitching.

1.8 WARNING
1.Use gloves.
2.Turn the motor off before cleaning, oiling or adjusting the machine .
