This study examined the effect of family psychoeducation on the ability of families to care for patients with schizophrenia at a health center in Malang, Indonesia. Most families were unable to care for patients before psychoeducation, while almost all could after. Statistical analysis found that psychoeducation significantly improved families' ability to care for patients, as their ability was better after psychoeducation than before. The psychoeducation appears to have had a positive effect on how families cared for their schizophrenic family members.

Schizophrenia is a severe mental disorder characterized by a decrease or inability to
communicate, disturbances in reality in the form of hallucinations and delusions, abnormal or blunted affect. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of family psychoeducation on the family's ability to care for Schizophrenia sufferers at the Sumberpucung Health Center, Sambigede Village, Sumberpucung District, Malang Regency. This study uses an pre eksperimental research design with a pretest posttest design approach. The population in this study were families who cared for Schizophrenia patients at the Sumberpucung Health Center, Sambigede Village, Sumberpucung District, Malang Regency with 100 people. A sample of 50 respondents was taken using the Simple random Sampling technique. That is taking samples according simple random The results of the study showed that most (68%) of the respondents before being given family psychoeducation were unable to care for schizophrenia patients, namely 34 people, Almost all (88%) of the respondents after being given family psychoeducation were able to care for Schizophrenia sufferers, namely 44 respondents. Based on the Wilcoxon test, a p-value of 0.000 <alpha (0.05) was obtained, this indicates that H0 is rejected and H1 is accepted, meaning that there is an influence of family psychoeducation on the ability of families to care for Schizophrenia sufferers at the Sumberpucung Health Center, Sambigede Village, Sumberpucung District, Malang Regency. In this study there is a Negative Rank, namely 28 respondents. This means that the family's ability to care for schizophrenic patients after being given psychoeducation is better than before being given psychoeducation, while the Ties value is 22, meaning that after being given psychoeducation the category is the same as before being given psychoeducation.
