3.5 TRANSPosITION METHOD FOR SOLVING LINEAR EQUATIONS IN ONE VARIABLE

Sometimes the twro sides of an equation contain both variable (unknown quantity) and
Cnstants (numerals). In such cases, we first simplily two sides in their simplest torms
and then transpose (shif) terms containing variable on R.H.S. to L.H.S and constant
terms on I.H.S to M.HS. By transposing a term from one side to the otherside, we mean
changing its sign and carrying it to the other side. In transposition the plus sigm of the
term changes into minus sign on the other side and vice-versa.

The transposition method invalves thhe following steps:

Step I Ohtain the linear eguation.
Sten II ldentify the uariable (unknoun quantity) and constants (numerals).
