The history of football (soccer)
2500 BC Researchers found that in ancient China give some love to
football players using balls made of animal skin.
AD 217 British soldiers said that they started playing the game by
kicking the skulls of defeated Roman soldiers from a liberated village.
600 -1600 Mexican and Central American people played rubber ball
games which was similar in some ways to football.
1830’s The modern form of football originated in England.
1848 The first Cambridge Rules are drawn up in England.
1863 The football Association is founded in England.
1872 The first international football match between England and
Scotland.
1883 Four British associations form the International Football
Association Board.
1888 Introduction of the penalty kick.
1904 FIFA is established at a meeting in Paris on 21st May by
delegates from France, Belgium, Denmark, the Netherlands, Spain,
Sweden, Switzerland.
1908 Football becomes an Olympic event.
1930 First World Cup with 13 teams in Uruguay.
1977 First FIFA World Youth Tournament in Tunisia (renamed World
Youth Championship in 1981, for player under 20).
1985 First FIFA U-16 World Tournament in China (renamed under-
17 world championship in 1991).
1988 Start of the FIFA fair play Campaign.
1989 First FIFA World Championship for five-a-side Football in the
Netherlands.
1991 First FIFA World Championship for Women’s Football in China,
won by the USA.
2002 Korea and Japan co-host first World Cup to be held outside of

4. Equipment needed for football

Football requires very little equipment, but the coach will need:
1. A whistle to control the game.
2. Several footballs.
3. Cones to mark out areas.
4. A bag to carry the above.

Each player in a team should have:

1. Jersey or T-shirt of the same team color.
2. Loose fitting shorts.
3. Football socks.
4. Football boots
5. Shin-guards.
The regulation soccer ball is size 68-70 cm in circumference.

Specialized equipment will be required for the goalie. These are:

 1. A brightly colored, contrasting jersey so that the goalie is easily
recognized.
2. Goalie gloves to protect the hands.
3. Elbow and hip pads for protection since diving is a necessary
skill.
