Statement of the problem

What are the main causes of school dropout among a group of grade 10 boys of Irwin high
school?

REASON FOR SECLECTING THE AREA OF RESEARCH

The area under investigation is Irwin high school, in a small suburban community which is
located in St. James, Jamaica. The school has approximately 22 boys who dropped out, The
media had a lot of information that suggests about an increasing of student who dropped-out
in a wide range of boys in Jamaica. As students, we have come to realize an increase in the
number of boys who tend to lose focus in Wich results in low academic performances while
Some drop out of schools voluntarily and others were expelled due to bad behavior. These
reasons motivated the researchers to conduct a survey.

METHOD OF INVESTIGATION

In order to collect data for research, the researchers used a questionnaire to conduct a survey.

 This questionnaire allows the researcher to gain information from a large number of
people in a relatively short period of time.
 Due to covid-19, less interaction with other people would be much safer for us the
researchers.
 Saves time and money

PROCEDURES FOR DATACOLLECTION
The instrument used was an unprinted survey that was created online, the questionnaire had
12 questions and 7 opened ended and closed ended questions including a demographic data.
Twenty-two respondents were assigned to 59.1% females and 40.9% males. The data was
collected by my fellow group members and Data was collected by sending out the
questionnaire to friends and families until we get enough response to start our research. The
data collection was only in one (1) day.

The data collection was on the internet, the researchers send the survey to respondents to
complete and data was collected. This procedure was necessary to collect enough information
for our school-based assessment.

TASK 7
ANALYSIS AND INTERPRETATION OF DATA

The researcher has observed that there is a large increase in the numbers of students who
dropout at Irwin high school. This research is centered on the age groups of 16 – 18 years old
boys.
According to figure (1) 50% of respondents says that financial difficulties is one of the main
problems that cause students to drop out of school while 18.2 % says that it was smoking. The
researcher revealed 13.6% which indicate both mental health issues and bullying.
As maintained by figure (2) problems that these students faced in school which causes them to
drop out of school. The research revealed a 59.1% range of students who had difficulties with
school work. while a range of 22.7%of students faced problem with the teachers and 9.1% had
problems with the school itself.
In view of the fact that table (1) shows how can we solve the problem of school dropout, 30% of
respondents said co-operation with students' parents could stop them from dropping out as
well as 25%think of start a mentoring program or school uses technology to engage students
could help, a value of 20% said by provides interesting and helpful school program such as
summer school can help to stop school dropout.

Statement of finding
1.The main reason for the increasing level of grade 10 boys who dropout at Irwin high school is
financial difficulties which is a value of 50 %.
2.The main problem faced by the grade 10 boys at Irwin high school is difficulties with school
work which result 59.1%.
3.To stop the problem of school dropout 30% respondent stated coo-prating with students'
parent can help and by providing interesting and helpful school program such as summer
school account for 25%

Task 9

Recommendations and implementation strategy


After a keen analysis of the data, researchers are now developing recommendation to reduce
the causes of school dropouts.
The researchers recommend that there should be a financial program to give support to
students who have financial difficulties with school and also provide extra classes, study
sessions on Saturdays to help improving with their school work. we also recommend more PTA
meeting for more cooperation with students' parents this with keep them on the right track.
