Working harder than others Causes – Pros or Cons Essay 60

In both education and employment, some people work much harder than others. What
makes people work harder than others? Is it always a good thing to work hard?

It is now fairly common for both students and employees to make extra efforts at their institutes
and workplaces as compared to their peers. This essay will discuss several possible reasons for
this phenomenon and argue that although this is a positive development, it also has demerits.
This trend might be attributable to two main reasons. The underlying reason is that, owing to
achieving outstanding marks and attaining greater success than others, learners are stimulated to
be more studious in their coursework. In a little more detail, in the contemporary, extremely
competitive job market, students must put more effort into outperforming their classmates in
order to readily obtain better-paid job opportunitiesc in the coming years. Another possible
contributing factor is that working harder than others might enable workers to experience
better living standards. To cite an example, according to the survey conducted by the Vietnam
Labor Association, a majority of workers claimed to be working harder than others in order to
obtain extra money, bonuses, and greater opportunities for job advancement.
Nevertheless, this tendency is not completely beneficial; there are certain negative aspects that
should be taken into consideration. The greatest serious disadvantage is that extensive working
hours could lead to severe risks for mental and physical health. By far, the best illustration of this
is that long hours of sitting concentrately in front of the screen are causing chronic backaches,
eye strains or depression and stress, even lead to numerous early deaths from cardiac arrests,
ischemic heart disease or suicide. Another additional consequence is that, due to the overload of
work and odd working hours, employees or students may not have enough time to interact with
or visit their loved ones. To be more precise, family time is given less priority, and less
communication weakens the family bond, which can lead to broken families, divorces, conflicts,
misunderstandings, and other troubles.
Henceforth, it can be confidently conveyed that varied reasons have been given for working
harder than others, which is progressively becoming the norm, as well as a range of negative
consequences.
