PRACTICAL RESEARCH 1
QUALITATIVE RESEARC

Learning Task 1. Qualitative Vs. Quantitative

Using the Semantic Web, give the differences between the two key concepts below. Then, write their strengths and weaknesses
to complete the table.
QUALITATIVE RESEARCH
1. Qualities that cannot be easily be quantified.

2. Hypothesis and parameters can emerge in reaction to

data as it is collected- not needed to begin research.

3. Mostly inductive reasoning to look for themes and

patterns, then deductive reasoning to support hypothesis.

4. Researcher becomes immersed in the research and

react subjectively to data.

5. Data collection methods are semi- structured or unstructured.

QUALITATIVE RESEARCH

STRENGTH WEAKNESS

 Data usually are collected from a few cases or  Research quality is heavily dependent on the
individuals so findings cannot be generalized individual skills of the researcher and more
to a larger population. Findings can however easily influenced by the researcher's
be transferable to another setting. personal biases and idiosyncrasies.

 The data based on human experience that is  Findings can be more difficult and time
obtained is powerful and sometimes more consuming to characterize in a visual way.
compelling than quantitative data.

QUANTITATIVE RESEARCH
1. Measurable variables.

2. Hypothesis and parameters set before research begins.

3. Inductive reasoning only before research begins,

then wolly deductive reasoning used to support or refute hypothesis.

4. Researcher remains objective and uninvolved emotionally in study.

5. Data collection methods are highly structured.

QUANTITATIVE RESEARCH
WEAKNESS

 Related secondary data is sometimes not

available or accessing available data is
difficult/impossible.

 Data may not be strong enough to explain

complex issues.

Learning Task 2. Research Topic

Applying the guidelines learned and considering the things to be avoided in choosing a research topic, make 5 research topics of
your choice related to your track and strand.
1. Role of media for educational purposes
2. Importance of technology at this time of pandemic
3. The effects of social media on student's behaviors
4. Pros and cons of new distance learning system
5. The impact of the internet on economic development
Explain why they are considered as researchable topics. As you write your justification/reason on the space below, use your
knowledge in Reading and Writing Skills on making assertion.

Firstly, the topics are all interesting and relevant at this time of pandemic. These topics give significant information and valuable
knowledge on how to deal with those challenges. I believe that these topics are appropriate nowadays, this could be a way or solution
of conflict and misunderstanding of a particular subject. In addition, it also provides focus and helps to identify areas of importance as
well as possibilities for the exploration and analysis of such areas.

Learning Task 3. Research Across Discipline PERFORMANCE TASK

State two topics that can be researchable for the following disciplines.

DISCIPLINES RESEARCHABLE TOPICS

Science (STEM) 1. How covid-19 affects the life of scientists
2. What is the importance of covid-19 vaccine
Technology (TVL) 1. Can air- powered cars be a solution for a zero- pollution future?
2. How to use Virtual Reality (VR) & Augmented Reality (AR) to
enhance students' learning.
Education (HUMSS) 1. Pros and Cons of new distance learning system
2. What is the impact of social media on educational purposes
Business (ABM) 1. How can technology helps the business marketing through this
pandemic
2. Does social media increase the income of online sellers
Laws (GAS) 1. What is the psychological effects of cyberbullying
2. What is the importance of implementing laws

From the given topics, choose one (1) and write on the space below the problem found in the topic that affects daily life of man.
Explain logically and be guided by the rubric provided.

If I were to choose one topic, I would go with, “What is the psychological effects of cyberbullying.” This topic would provide a valuable
knowledge for every individual who experiences being bullied using social medias. This is very common nowadays especially that
social platforms and internet community prevails in every step of the way during this current pandemic. People these days are usually
at home resulting for them to have plenty of time to use social medias so, being cyberbullied is inevitable. This kind of bullying has a
great impact for those who experience it. Being humiliated in social media can affect the psychological health of a person. They may
feel ashamed to face people and they can lose their self-esteem to express themselves. The embarrassment they feel can lead their
psychological health to worsen as if they are afraid to step out of the dark and be judged again. Cyberbullying can lead into a lot of
negative effects including stress, anxiety and depression.

RUBRIC:
Score / Description Criteria
5 - Excellent The answer is clear, well-organized, supported by detailed and accurate information.
4 - Very Good The answer is clear, organized and supported by information.
3 - Good The answer is written with clear information.
2 - Fair The answer is clear but poorly supported.
1- Poor The answer is unclear and not supported.

Learning Task 5. REFLECTION
Reflect on the learning that you gained from this lesson by answering the questions below. Complete the paragraph starters.

1. What were your misconceptions about the topic prior to taking up this lesson?

I learned that… this lesson helps me sharpen my critical and analytical thinking skills. This lesson gives me hands-on
experience and I gain a deeper understanding on what are the differences of qualitative research and quantitative research in order
for me to be prepared to do a research
