A food chain explains which organism eats another

organism in the environment. The food chain is a
linear sequence of organisms where nutrients and
energy is transferred from one organism to the
other. This occurs when one organism consumes
another organism. It begins with the producer
organism, follows the chain and ends with the
decomposer organism. After understanding the
food chain, we realise how one organism is
dependent upon another organism for survival.
PLANTS- Base of Food Chain
HERBIVORES- Feed on Plants
CARNIVORES- Feed on Plants and Animal
1ST LEVEL CARNIVORES- Feed on Herbivores
2ND LEVEL CARNIVORES- Feed on First Level Carnivores
DECOMPOSERS- This forms the ''Final'' Consumes group and most
important one.
ORGANISMS IN FOOD CHAINS ARE GROUPED INTO
CATEGORIES CALLED TROPHIC LEVELS. ROUGHLY
SPEAKING, THESE LEVELS ARE DIVIDED INTO PRODUCERS
(FIRST TROPHIC LEVEL), CONSUMERS (SECOND, THIRD, AND
FOURTH TROPHIC LEVELS), AND DECOMPOSERS.
1. First Trophic Level: Autotrophs

2. Second Trophic Level: Primary 3. Third Trophic Level:

Why it is important to have knowledge about

in the food chain?

it is important for us to understand or learn how to food

chain works and they show the intricate relationships in
ecosystems so that we know what are the important living
organisms that make up the food chain.
