PERSONAL STATEMENT FOR MANAGEMENT (DIGITAL BUSINESS) MSc

Digitization is everywhere you look. Today’s world is becoming more and more digital, and, in the future,
digitization will play an even greater role than it already does. It is time for new ideas, business models
and digital evolution to prepare the economy for the future and make it digital. Digital Business is now a
standard embraced by industries to survive the fast-growing changes in the world of commerce. Times
are not only changing, but they are also advancing. Furthermore, we need to embrace digital disruption
to achieve our goals and progress on our academic and career journeys.
My study and understanding of Business Administration has prompted me to apply for this Post-
Graduate Studies because obtaining this master’s degree will boost my career and set me on track to
achieving my career goals. Opportunities for innovation abound, and there is also an increasing demand
for professionals with the technical skill to deliver digital transformation for businesses and create new
businesses using digital technology. This makes it a perfect time to study digital business management
which will in turn lead to raising competent and skilled experts in the industry through human and
institutional development.

During my graduate studies, I developed a robust capacity to learn through discipline, dedication, and
diligence in my academic work. This is evident in my grades as I obtained high grades for several
modules and bagged a Second-Class Honors Upper Division in Business Administration from Covenant
University with a cumulative grade point (CGPA) of 4.16/5.00. My quest for more theoretical and
practical oriented knowledge fueled my interest to go for a master’s degree in Management (Digital
Business). This research is important to me because the knowledge gained through my research work
would give me the skills and experience to manage a digital business, lead digital transformation and
innovation projects, and create new business opportunities using digital technology.

I currently work as a Relationship Manager for one of the leading banks in Nigeria where I have worked
for five years and promoting businesses through the digital platform and develop and implement digital
solutions which is one of my key functions and this research work would expand my knowledge and
broaden my horizon. Over the years I have been able to possess some relevant skills such as leadership,
customer relationship management, reporting and decision-making skills which are valuable to this
course. In the future, I hope to start up my own firm where I can consult for other people and taker their
business to where it should be and this course would give me the right background and knowledge for
that.
As an International student, I chose to study in the United Kingdom and most especially the University
of Westminster because they have an impeccable international reputation and the facilities there for my
course chosen are second to none and I like the approach taken by the University to my course.

I have no doubt that development studies at Lund University will meet the criteria of
intellectual rigor that I have set for myself, for my education, and for those I have
promised to serve.
A country's development is the direct result of the capacity of its institutions to perform
effectively which in turn depends on the quality of the human resource working there and
the related policies that govern these institutions. Unfortunately, in almost all sectors of
Pakistan the infrastructure development is given priority over the human resource
development and the negligence of the public policy makers in this regard exacerbates this
situation. Policy makers have failed to make the vocational training part of the curriculum
and combine the formal education with the skill development.

Pakistan has the highest youth population after Afghanistan in South Asia and ranks second
lowest in South Asia for Commonwealth YDI 2017. According to another report Pakistan
ranks 164th out of 195 countries for its quality of human capital. This is one of the main
reasons that unemployment of youth in Pakistan is higher than other South Asian countries
except Sri-Lanka.

I have rich experience in HRD and now I plan to study Masters of Public Administration; this
course focuses on developing consummate public policy makers in the ever changing
business environment. This course will expose me to policy making practices in the UK and
will help me understand how organizations work and how employees perceive their work
environment. This course will help me to not only cope with the current challenges related to
human resources in the state institutions through effective policy making but will also
prepare me to handle future challenges such as the "laying off the human resources". As a
student in UK I will also get the chance to observe and understand the structure and
implementation techniques of professional development programs for students, which I can
replicate in Pakistan.

After this course I plan to return to Pakistan and serve my country by joining the Planning
and Development Department which is the central agency which sets the strategic policies
for the HRD and monitors its implementation in Pakistan. In this role I will be able to derive
strategies to bring behavioral changes in employees on micro level and policy changes on
macro level using psychological tools of positive and negative reinforcement. Through
effective policy making based on scientific research, I will be able to solve the issues such
as misuse of authority, early leaving and procrastination of work, misbehaving with public
and commonplace involvement in grafting in organizations of Pakistan.

My final anticipated outcome is to use my experience related to HR and exposure of policy

making in UK to improve human capital output in the public sector organization. I would also
design professional development programs and collaborate with universities to introduce
these in the courses to fill the gap between the current skills the youth has and skills
required in the future by the organizations.

As per my career plan I have no doubt that I will be able to make an initial impact within Ten
years and this impact can be measured by the improved human resource output in the
target government institutions.
Please help me with my essay below. I am international student trying to apply for a Masters
in development studies

My aim to pursue a Master's degree in Development Studies is fueled by my desire to better

myself academically, improve on my career prospects and contribute to development
globally. Like any developing country, Uganda is overwhelmed by socio-economic problems
such as poverty, under-distribution of resources, which affects its development. The Master
of Science in Development Studies will enable me to contribute to my country because of its
interdisciplinary approach. The program will develop my understanding of the theory and
strategies used to address developmental issues and to learn how these have been applied
in real-life case studies effectively.

In particular, I like the program because of its focus on developmental problems such as
poverty, population growth; undistribution of resources, food production, issues dealing with
gender inequalities, ethnicity and class. These are some of the challenges that are currently
affecting developing countries especially in Africa. In addition, the program will broadly
develop and improve my understanding of the contemporary issues affecting not only
developing countries but also developed countries worldwide. Academically the degree will
provide me with problem solving skills, managerial skills, and critical analysis skills that are
relevant to tackling development and sustainability of any nature. Alongside that, it will also
offer a solid grounding in research in development studies and enhance my understanding
of the field.

My reason for applying to Lund University is that it is an international centre for research
and education with a time-honoured history. The faculty of Social sciences in this university
is quite prominent among its counterparts in the field. I am particularly attracted by the
School's powerful pedagogical resource, vibrant intellectual atmosphere and a
comprehensive curriculum. It is also an opportunity to meet different people from all walks
of life, gain deep-rooted knowledge of other people's cultures, their way of life, and help me
to appreciate my own. It will enable me to know and understand how other people view
issues of development in their countries. My interest is to gain the capacity to carry out
research and understand the extent to which various factors are affecting people at a
grassroots level.

My ultimate goal is to earn a PhD in the field of development Studies. In terms of my career,
attaining this master's degree will enable me to gain employment at a higher level in my
chosen field. On completion of my Master's degree, I hope to continue with my studies or in
Ugandan or Non-governmental organizations. I would also like to work in research centres
and other educational institutions dealing with developmental agendas of these issues
mentioned above. I have no doubt that development studies at Lund University will meet the
criteria of intellectual rigor that I have set for myself, for my education, and for those I have
promised to serve.
