LESSON PLAN IN SCIENCE 8

FOURTH QUARTER
FEBRUARY 14, 2019
THURSDAY
Prepared by: SHERYL S. MITCHAO
Teacher I

I.OBJECTIVE: At the end of the period, students are expected to:

a. identify the processes of digestion and the organs involve in each process.

II.SUBJECT MATTER:
 TOPIC: UNIT 4, MODULE 3: THE DIGESTIVE SYSTEM
 SUB-TOPIC: PROCESSES OF DIGESTION: Ingestion, Absorption/Assimilation and Excretion
 REFERENCE: Learners Module pp. 292-304, http://youtube.com/watch?v=zr4onA2k_LY
 STRATEGIES: FOUR PICS 1 WORD, video presentation, Gallery Walk

III.PROCEDURE:
A. Preparatory Activities:
 Prayer: Will be led by the student assigned. (WATCH PRAYER)
 Greetings: The teacher will greet the students, then the students will response
 Checking of Attendance: Room secretary will write the number of absent and present during the period on the
board.
 Follow-up/Collecting Assignment/s if there’s any.

B. MOTIVATION:
 The teacher will let students answer the FOUR PICS 1 WORD GAME.

C H E W I N G D I G E S T

A B S O R B D E F E C A T I O N

 Lesson Objectives will be read by the students.

 After the students have answered the motivational activity, they will be ask about the previous topic.
C. REVIEW:

 A picture of a digestive system will be presented to the class.

 Students will identify the parts and discuss its functions.
Follow- up
Q1. How do you categorize the digestive system of an animal that has mouth and anus?
Q2. How about animals that has mouth but without anus?

D. LESSON PROPER:
Pre-discussion
- A short discussion will be conduced by the teacher about digestion process.
- Instruction on the group activity will be given.
 Students will be divided into 3.
 They will be instructed to proceed to their areas where they may post their output after.
 Each group will be ask to choose a ballot for the topic they are going to discuss in their group.
 After the 10 minutes time , group discussion will stop .
 Each group is given guide questions to be discussed during the group discussion.
 To check whether the group have understood their topics, questions will be ask after.
 Points will be given to the person who correctly answered the question and also to the group that was assigned
to discuss the topic.

GROUP 1 ( SALAD GROUP )

Ingestion - The first function of the digestive system is ingestion, or the intake of food. The mouth is responsible for this
function, as it is the orifice through which all food enters the body.

 Organs involve ( mouth, oral cavity, tongue ).

Q1. Discuss the process during ingestion.
Q2. Cite importance of proper chewing of foods.
Q3. What organ is responsible for this?

GROUP 2 ( PORK CHOP GROUP )

Absorption/Assimilation-
 begins in the stomach with simple molecules like water and alcohol being absorbed directly into the bloodstream.
 Most absorption takes place in the walls of the small intestine, which are densely folded to maximize the surface
area in contact with digested food.
 The process of synthesizing the biological compounds (macromolecules) from the absorbed simple
molecules is called assimilation.
 Organs involved are small intestine through microvilli.
Q1. Where does absorption happens?

Q2. What process is responsible in synthesizing biological compounds from the absorbed simple molecule?

Q3. What is absorbed during absorption?

GROUP 3 ( PANCAKE GROUP )

Excretion - The final function of the digestive system is the excretion of waste in a process known as defecation.

 Defecation removes indigestible substances from the body so that they do not accumulate inside the gut.
 The timing of defecation is controlled voluntarily by the conscious part of the brain, but must be accomplished
on a regular basis to prevent a backup of indigestible materials.
 Organs involved rectum & anus.
Q1. What is excretion?

Q2. What is the process of excretion of waste?

Q3. What organ is responsible for this process?

E. DISCUSSION :

 This time, questions will be asked to students for them to be able to discuss their ideas and to expound the topic
clearly.
 Teacher will clarify ideas which were not well stated during the question and answer period.
 Questions will also be entertained during this time.

F. GENERALIZATION:

 A PICTURE OF THE HUMAN DIGESTIVE SYSTEM WILL BE PRESENTED TO THE CLASS.

 Students will use the cursor to point which part of the digestive system absorption/assimilation, and excretion
happens.
 Finally call students to summarize everything.
G. VALUING:

 Ask question to student such as;

Q1. How important is having a good teeth for ingestion or to the whole digestion process?
Q2. Cite ways on how to keep organs healthy?

IV.EVALUATION:
Direction: Identify the processes of digestion described in each statement and write what organ is involved.
1. It is the act of taking the food ______________. _________________
2. The process by which vitamins, minerals, nutrients, etc. are absorb is called ___________ and happens in
____________.
3. It is the removal of the indigested substances from the body.___________ _______________

4. The process of synthesizing the biological compounds (macromolecules) from the absorbed simple molecules is
called____________ _______________
5. During ___________ food from the stomach pass through ___________.

V. ASSIGNMENT:
LIST SOME EXAMPLES OF DESEASES IN THE DIGESTIVE SYSTEM.
