LESSON PLAN IN SCIENCE 8

THIRD QUARTER
NOVEMBER 29, 2018
THURSDAY
_________________________________________________________________________________________
I. OBJECTIVE: At the end of the period, students are expected to:
a. determine the number of proton, electrons, and neutrons of a given element.
CONTENT STANDARDS:
The learners demonstrate understanding of the identity of a substance according to its
atomic structure.
LEARNING COMPETENCY:
Determine the number of protons, neutrons, and electrons in a particular atom.
(S8MT-IIIe-f10)
II. SUBJECT MATTER:
A. TOPIC: ATOMIC STRUCTURE
B. REFERENCE: LEARNERS MODULE, TEACHERS GUIDE, INTERNET
C. MATERIALS: PERIODIC TABLE, ACTIVITY SHEETS, VISUAL AIDS,
D. STRATEGIES: BOARD WORK, GROUP DISCUSSION, REPORTING.

III. PROCEDURE:

A. PREPARATORY ACTIVITIES:

PRAYER: Will be led by the student assigned.

GREETINGS: The teacher will greet the students, then students will response.

CHECKING OF ATTENDANCE: Room Secretary will write the number of absent and
present during the period.

FOLLOW UP/ COLLECTING ASSIGNMENT/S IF THERES ANY.

B. MOTIVATION:

- The teacher will present a flashcards of element symbols, and students will give its
element name and its atomic number.
1. Br - bromine ( 35 )
2. Au - Gold ( 79 )
3. Ca - Calcium ( 20 )
4. Ar - Argon ( 18 )
5. F - Flourine ( 9 )
C. REVIEW:

- For the review, students will be ask the following questions:

Q1. What was our previous topic?
Q2. What do you mean by isotopes?
Q3. How does an isotope differs from the original element? For example C-12?
Q4. How do you identify the number of subatomic particle in an isotope?

- Students will complete the table below with the correct answer.
Isotope Element # of proton # of electron # of neutron
Name
B- 6 5 1
C- 13 6
K-35 16

D. LESSON PROPER:

- students will be divided into 3 groups.

- each group will be given different activity for them to answer in 5 minutes time.
- after the time, students will have their presentation infront.
- after each presentation, teacher will give them a clap.

GROUP 1
INSTRUCTION: Decoding: Complete the following information by decoding the
letters/numbers by writing the NEXT letters/ NUMBER given.
Example = GXCQNFDM answer is HYDROGEN , after the letters are decoded, identify its
proton, electron and the number of neutron and write it on the corresponding box.
EXAMPLE = 12 = next number to 1 is 2, next number to 2 is 3 therefore the number is 23
which is the atomic number for VANADIUM.

1. SHSAMHTL 2. 44 3. HQNM 4. 25

Blue – element name

Brown- no.of proton
Yellow- no. of electron
Green- no. of neutron

GROUP 2
INSTRUCTION: Read and tell. For your group answer the questions by identifying the
missing information for a specific element.

1. Hi! Im Element ____, I have 7 Protons and _____electrons. How many neutrons do I have?
2. Hello! My name is Sulfur, my element symbol is _________and I have ________protons
and 16 electrons. Do you know that I have ______neutrons?

3. I’m precious, and shiny. I have ______ protons and 79 electrons and I am __________?

4. Im one of the noble gases with a symbol of He. I do have 2 protons and 2 neutrons, and
______no. of electrons, I am ____________?

GROUP 3
INSTRUCTION: Explain the jumbled statement on how to get the number of protons,
electrons and neutrons using the elements atomic no. and mass number. Present your own
examples for your statement.

 ATOMIC NO. IS EQUAL TO THE NO. PROTON

 NUMBER OF ELECTRON IS EQUAL TO THE NO. OF PROTON
 IN IDENTIFYING THE NUMBER OF NEUTRON, SUBTRACT THE MASS
NUMBER AND THE NUMBER OF PROTON.

- After the students discussions and presentations, questions will be entertained.

- The teacher will ask questions to students to clarify things.

E. GENERALIZATION:

- students will be asked the ff questions:

Q1. So , how do you identify the number of proton of an element?
Q2. What is the equivalent value of the number of proton?
Q3. Is the mass number important in identifying the number of neutrons? Why?

IV.EVALUATION:
DIRECTION: Determine the number of proton, electrons, and neutrons of a given element by
completing the table below.

Element symbol Element name # of proton # of electron # of neutron

1. P
2. Cl
3. Br
4. Cu
5. Zn
