How many
adjectives can
we use?
• Usually, we have two
adjectives in front of a
noun.
• Sometimes we have three
adjectives in front of a
noun, but this is unusual
• It is very unusual to have
more than three adjectives.

When we talk about food, we put
flavour after size but before colour:
a big, juicy steak

• In the case of shape, to use the adjectives, you have to
use the shape (noun) and change or add a suffix.

• When the shape finishes with –angle (Ex. Triangle,


rectangle), you can change the suffix –angular: Triangular,
rectangular.
• When the shape has the suffix –gon (hexagon, octagon),
you add an –al: Hexagonal, octagonal.
• When the shape is with a figure (cross, heart, diamond,
etc.), you add the hyphen (–) and then you add the word
shapped: Heart-shaped, cross-shaped.

Use of ONE or ONES
We use ONE or ONES when we don’t
want to repeat the already
mentioned noun(s).
• ONE à refers to the previously
mentioned SINGULAR noun.
• ONES à refers to the previously
mentioned PLURAL noun.
A: I’d like to see the
earrings, please.
B: Sure. We have
these ones.
A: Thank you.
B: Which ones do
you like?
A: I like the cross-
shaped, silver ones.

adjective or something that may help to better identify the
noun we’re refering to…
